<< Like LAUST, I prefer the letter-number combos. However I like it when they mean something such as car type and engine size....

LS430 = luxury sedan with a 4.3L engine
SC300 = sports coupe with a 3.0L engine

Good call

Yeah, Lexus did do the best system for sure. I totally spaced giving that as an example too, especially with my dad being the toyota head he is 😉

Am I the first to point out the dumbest name of all????

The AMC Gremlin

<< : a cause of error or equipment malfunction (as in aircraft) conceived of as a small mischievous gnome >>

from websters

How about the Dodge Diplomat? If anyone remembers what these pieces of crap looked like, you would know that no Diplomat would be caught dead driving in one!

I just saw a Cadillac Catera.

<< ca·tarrh Pronunciation Key (k-tär)

<< Japanese cars that use American names. Read: Sequoia, Santa Fe, Tacoma, etc. >>

Being nitpicky here but the Hyundai Santa Fe is Korean...

GS300/430= Toyota Aristo
ES300 = Toyota Windom
IS300 = Toyota Altezza
SC430 = Toyota Soarer
LX470 = Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus (they have 4 different versions of the Land Cruiser)

<< Don't get me started on the Plymouth Duster (Sundance/Shadow) cars! >>

Sundance is kind quirky, but what's wrong with a Shadow?

A Shadow follows you. And like a Mirage is not substantial.

Laganza: sounds like some internal organ. "I've got inflamation of the laganza"

Achieva: sounds like a word used by a Long Island bragging grandmother. "My Michael, he's a doct-uh and a loi-uh. He's a real achieva."

Nissan only gives those "cool" names in the US. It has world wide market names that have been quite different. Like the Fairlady, Cherry, etc, etc. You would be surprized to see what they call your hot sports car in other world markets.

Most BMW names make sense too.
The first digit is the series/size - 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and the second two digits are usually the engine size in liters - 2.0, 2.5, 2.8, 3.5. 5.0, etc.
I'm pretty sure that the "i" at the end is for fuel injection and the "L" is for stretched body. (Lange in German?)
