Car got broken into while I was at work. I want to file a small claims against city

There's a San Diego PD golf cart thing that always goes up and down La Jolla Shores Dr. to hand out parking tickets, and there are 2 security guards posted from UCSD that walks up and down the length of SIO (Scripps Institution of Ocenography, where i work). Also, just last week, SIO just posted additional 7-am to 5pm guards along the SIO areas. I was trying to complain to UCSD about this, but they said that this strip of road is out of their jurisdiction, even though on both sides of the road, UCSD facilities (SIO) are present throughout much of the length of the road.

Yet, my car still got broken into.

just a thought. Ya, i didn't lose much, but a ton of people work @ SIO and use the parking areas in and around the road. I lost around ~$300 in personal property, and $300 in repairs. I wonder if I can just do a small claims for $600.

If you legal dudes say it's not possible, then I won't pursue it. I have no experience in this, and maybe I should just give it a shot just for experience purposes. I ahve plenty of time the next two weeks anyways.

EDIT: after a brief period of thinking, and comments, i won't pursue since I have no shot.

EDIT2: as for insurance, my deductible is $500, so why report?

Um no, you can't win. You are to blame as you parked your car there, not the city. You do not have a contract with the PD to watch your car specifically.

Why did you have valuables in your car?

the road in question is right behind the first pic.

Extremely affluent area. Road leads to housing that costs into the multi-millions.

Just google search La Jolla for reference.

Sorry but, the world really is a hard cruel place. There are just enough police to keep the barbarians from invading. Protecting cars is low priority.

Just wondering what your background is that led you to believe suing the city was even a possibility?

ya, and you're right. should've never thought of it, but it crossed my mind after something similar happened to a coworker; except they caught the guy, and he works for city. that's it.

In california, you can sue anyone .... however; you become the wart of society by participating in that. When I was there there was a story of a lady that got hit jaywalking (they will give you a ticket for that in CA), and was able to sue the police for not stopping the cars, the ambulance to taking too long to get there (in her opinion she wasn't in a life threatening state), both plazas on each side of the road for not providing a path (????), and also both businesses she was traveling between...she won the the first round, but most were appealing. I wish I followed it, as I have always been curious what happened. To me I would never do that, but it was like she was winning a lottery the amount of money they said she won in that article.

The fair game is carry comprehensive insurance and pay to play.

I believe in lawsuits for certain things, but abuse of them leads to everyone paying except usually those raping the system.

I wish I had that kind of view just outside my building. 🙁

Heh. My office window is right next to the water in SF. I often see kayakers rowing through under the window. I wish the water was more clear though.
