Car got broken into. Backpack was stolen.

I didn't realize it until after I loaded my bike in the back and sat down in the car to notice my passenger window was in my passenger seat... completely broken apart. I was like, "Really?" I checked all my compartments to see if they stole anyway.. Nope. I'm like, "You broke in and found nothing. Alright..."

I got out of my car, looked around for cameras(none), and called dah police because I was like, "What me do?" They asked if over $1500 in damage was caused. Nope. Maybe $300-400 for the window repair. They're like, "alright, you can do it online blahblahblah...."

I get ready to drive to school. Where is my backpack? I drive back to my apartment. "No backpack here. No backpack in car. Backpack been stolen. Really? I have homework to turn in! I have one hell of an excuse...."

So, here I am. Looking for auto body shops that specialize in glass on google.

Call your insurance company. At least with mine, they replaced my windshield for free (I didn't have to pay any towards a deductible) and that might apply to other windows as well, but I am not sure.
 
I feel for you...

Someone broke into my car over spring break and stole my stereo (goes for $400 used on Ebay) in the wee hours of the morning in my apartment's parking lot. They did $3,000 worth of damage to the car after a failed slim jim, busting out the rear passenger side window and finally entering in via the busted hatchback window. They ripped my entire climate control console out to get to the stereo and made many dents and scratches to the exterior in the process. Thankfully, insurance footed the bill (save $100 deductible), but I have been driving a rental for almost a month since it is still being repaired.

The alarm never went off...

Had the serial numbers for the police, thankfully. I also had the security code enabled (locks it out if disconnected from a power source). The police dusted for fingerprints, but they wore gloves apparently.

Oddly enough, they did not take the DVD navigation software (worth ~$50) or my Sennheiser headphones. They did take my $5 cash worth of emergency gas money that I had stashed under the DVD navigation software. Thankfully, my MP3 player and Laptop were not in there.

Next car I get, I am just going to use the stock stereo.

Because I didn't want to take it out...? Also I didn't think people would break into cars in such a densely populated neighborhood because of possibility of being filmed or caught, but I guess I was wrong.

+1 on this. Never leave anything of value, or suspected value in plain view.

My wifes neice had a bad habit of leaving her purse in the front seat of her car. That was until someone busted the window out and stole her purse.

Hey OP, read up on OPSEC and go from there. Never leave anything where people can see it in your car / truck. I put stuff under my seat so its not visible. If I have my camera with me, and my wife and I even go to the local wal-mart, the camera is going in the glove box, under the seat, getting a hat up over it,,,, something so that its not visible.

OPSEC, learn it, live it.

I don't care how densely populated your area is, at 1AM or so it's going to be pretty dead.
 
Well, I didn't considerate because it was just a backpack in a not expensive car. I didn't think people would break in for a backpack.

I understand the laptops thing, but whatever.
 
I'm not sure if i should believe this unlikely story.

Student dude, no job, on welfare, own car, and camera. And, have his car broken in.

No they dont, its a law every insurance has to replace windshield for free.
