so the guys bank has your money....the private seller has the title...and your paying off a loan which you have nothing to show for it? LOL
Life lesson # 126 : A fool and his money are soon parted....or in this case gradually parted over time as you will be paying off a loan for a car that you will never drive 😛

Its both of your faults for financing. This is what happens when people become too dependent on banks. The finance department bends you over for a month and you can take it with a sandpaper condom or not make the deal.

I suppose you pay for all of your cars with cash?

Damn straight. See: Right above selling price.

umm isnt that $5K ... just in cash?
On the side note though, PAB is right. It's much much easier to buy stuff with MO / cash.

bump. I'm getting bad vibes on this transaction. They wouldn't/didn't Fed-x the title? Overpayment check?

Good luck.

I just got a call from the seller. He got the check from the bank in the mail today 🙂.

The stupid thing is...the check was cut and mailed out on Tuesday. I contacted his bank on Wednesday, and that's when they told me it would arrive "sometime before Sept. 13". So they were unaware that they had already mailed it when I called?? 😕

Anyway, I don't care...as long as he has it. I'm going to pick the car up tomorrow. 😀

Trusting a bank is like trusting a post made by F22 Raptor - a stupid idea no matter how much sense it might make at the time.

UPDATE: It's in the driveway!

It was a 7 hour ordeal...here's how it went down...
First, walked a mile in the pouring rain to the train station. Hopped the train into NYC. Then, walked a few blocks in NYC to the Port Authority bus terminal. Then hopped a bus to NJ, which was diverted from the turnpike due to massive construction delays, and then slowed down again due to an accident. We crawled right past it...all I saw was a couple ambulances, 4 police vehicles, a mangled bicycle and a shoe. I would guess the bicyclist was almost certainly killed. 🙁 Went to the seller's house, filled out paperwork, and I then drove back.

It's kind of nerve-racking driving a semi-flashy car 80 miles with no plates on it. I'm glad I didn't get stopped!

You know the DOL can give you temporary tags to drive the car to a different state? It doesn't cost much..at least, not last time I did it.

But I guess you made it fine, so that money's still in your pocket😉

Thats what, like $15K at most ??
How about $75K ??

That's a pretty cool car. I might have missed the thread, but what year is it and how much did you pay for it, if you don't mind me asking.

It's a '94. I paid $18k. Which I felt was fair, since the wheels, tires, brakes all around, bushings, springs, shocks / struts, batteries (yes, there are two) and exhausts are all nearly new, the car is in SHOWROOM shape, and the mileage is decent for the year (81k).

The range I saw was ~10k for beat down ones with 250k miles on them up to $35k :Q for MINT ones with 25k. Median was roughly 15 - 20k, give or take. The ones in my general area seemed to be a bit higher priced than elsewhere in the country.
