Car buying decision...

In it's stock form, the TT 300zx is boost limited and top speed limited by its ECU. I think it's around 9 PSI. The stock turbine is good for at least 14 psi, so a lot of people do chip upgrades to take these limitations off. 4 extra psi is right around 50-60 HP by itself.

Then kill yourself, those are Stillen's numbers and I'll stand by them. I've not had the HP tested so that's all I can do.

I'll race a Firehawk or any other GM/Ford POS... makes no difference to me.

I can talk more later... gotta go to work.

So how much was your upgrade from stillen? Have you ever had your car timed at a track? 1/8 or 1/4 mile?

Millenium, your friend's ITR may beat the Prelude in some classes, but I guarantee you the Prelude will outperform the ITR in many others. And not cost nearly as much. The only benefit I see with the ITR is being able to say that you have a Type-R.

I bought the car already modded to Stage 3 from a local Z fanatic (and close friend), last month I had it bumped to Stage 4 (larger intercoolers) due to temp concerns. I'm not into working on cars personally, and to be honest I've never personally done anything more involved than changing plugs and cleaning the air filters. But I do love to drive them. All together with new 18" Centerlines (and Goodyears) I paid $19,500 when I bought it, which at the time was quite a bargain (still is considering). I get the quarter mile in the mid-12s to 13, depends on the tires and track. I don't drag that much with it anymore though, it's just too expensive (hard on the clutch and tires).

<< thorn, i know people with camaros that would leave your rice burner sooooooooo far behind. >>

Doubtful... 😉

The Honda Civic is a rice burner.

The once, $40,000+ Nissan 300ZX Twin turbo is not.

Just because it's japanese, doesn't mean it's a rice burner. Rice Burner is sucha derrogatory term for this semi-exotic auto. Where some extremely souped up Z28s blast past the 300ZXTT in a straightline, the 300ZX catches up in curves where good cars find their fans.

That's the way I see it too Hardtech. It just wasn't worth the extra $... they're basically the same car under the skin anyway. BTW, I just checked with C&D and a plain/vanilla Prelude pulls .92 g's, the Integra comes in at .93, no difference at all.

Well, day 2 with the Prelude and I love it. It's got quite a bit of pick-up and the handling is unbelievable for a car this cheap. I do wish the interior had a few more bells and whistles, but it's by no means as bad as the Neon. 😉 Very nice all the way around.

And I did consider waiting for the 250Z... but it's gonna cost more than I really want to spend. You are right on one point though, it's gonna be based on the Skyline platform (so Nissan says). Who knows, I may trade the Prelude sonner than I thought, I'll just have to wait and see.

Right... .93g? Car and Driver must use that crackhead scale. What month magazine did you look at? I will have to go throught the back-issues and look it up. Are you sure this wasn't an AWD Prelude? My old R&T has it listed as a lot lower. sure. You also said Integra... was it not a type R? The type R will leave the prelude in every test.

About a camaro. Most LS1's turn mid to low 13's stock. With light light mods(such as a whisper lid) they turn high 12's. Don't look in R&T or C&D to get the performance for these. Technical editor Evan Smith from MMFF(Muscle Mustangs Fast Fords) drove a LS1 to a high 12 bone stock. That was as an unbiased opinion that you can get.

I've been curious what a real driver can get in my car now. 12.6 is my best time (at BIR), but I'm too worried about screwing something up to get totally aggressive with it. Dumping the clutch at redline seems to be a skill that I just can't master (it's how I mangled the second clutch). Oh well, I'm too protective to let anyone else drive it so I may never know.

The comparison between the 2000 Integra GS-R and 2000 Prelude is in C&D Ultimate Comparisons 2000. The Prelude won every test but one, braking (and that was only by 3ft).

I know a guy that bought a 2000 SS and can run it in about 10s. He is working on it to make it low 9's soon 🙂
I'll post all the stuff he has on it later.

I've seen a minivan that can so low 13's- high 12's (stock engine), I wouldn't doubt that with the proper mods, an S2000 can reach into the 10's.

He's not referring to the S2000, he was talking about the 2000 Camaro SS.

Minivan in the high 12s? Stock? Maybe if you drop it off a cliff. 😉

Dear Lord...so much blashphemy flying left and right on these boards.

Millenium,

Scott Kalitta. Pro NHRA funny car racer, aka best in the biz. He needed 14.36 seconds for the 1/4 mile inthe LS1 powered Camaro Z28SS.

Car and driver? 13.851secs. I don't think MOST people can get their LS1 equipped Camaro to finish the quarter mile in mid to high 13s. However, some...not most. Certainly you didn't except C&D to do it faster than a pro...

Genocide,
Minivan doing it in 12 seconds maybe tricked out(Renault Espace something or other), but a STOCK Minivan? Sigh...I dont' have to say anymore do I? Millenium knows what I'm talking about...

locutus4,
Man...you probably know soccer moms with suburbans that could beat Thorn's 300ZX. Rice burner...yea...say that around some 300ZX owners. Just because it's from an asian company, doesn't make it a rice burner. Sigh...10 seconds in a BONE STOCK Z28SS? I know a friend, who's friend's friend, knows a friend of a priest, who's friend told him about his dad's friend, who knows this owner of a honda, who knows a rancher out in Colorado, who knows a police officer that owns a camaro that he bought from the guy who actually has the camaro I was gonna tell you about, but wanted to lend it to the guy who wanted to take it to the strip, but sold it to the guy who...where was I again?

Z28SS in 10 seconds, that's a ridiculous claim. I find the price of the ultra-exotic McLaren F1 extremely ridiculous, when for only $24,000, I can beat every car in the world! Even NASCAR cars!

Paul

P.S.-No mean to get hostile...late...got home from work just now🙁

No hes not pulling my rug, thats the thing. With camaros and trans-ams you can make these things possible for much less than some foreign exotica car that cant be modded at all.

People can make Pinto's run 11's, but it isn't very common. Neither is making a Camaro run 10's. Even racing companies like Lingenfelter and Henessy would kill for times like that on their Corvettes and Vipers, much less a measly Camaro.
