I sold car audio for 8+ years so I went through a lot of stuff. Every spring I would usually upgrade to whatever was new so that I could demo the stuff.
My favorite setup was:
Pioneer head unit. No motorized face but with the OEL display.
Polk DB highs and mids.
Directed Audio subs and amp.
I never liked 4 channel amps in my personal car. I also insisted that everything fit into stock locations. IMHO a good install looks just like stock but sounds like a concert.
