Car accidnets and slides from latest snow storm.

The Northeast truly got whacked and right out of nowhere, is this the same system that dumped 8-ft of snow on Utah? Here in my area it's been pathetic, one lousy lake-effect snowfall this entire winter.
 
That was kind of a weird compilation by CNN. Anyways, no spinouts for me, nor did I see any on my way into work this morning at 6am (surprisingly) but then again, there weren't many cars on the road at the time. When I got out of my car to walk into my building, I heard ambulance and fire engine sirens from not far away, apparently a car flipped right around the corner.

Seems SUV's and 4X4 trucks are always the first to hit something, slide into a ditch, or flip.


I put some good tires, DWS, on the rear on my RWD CTS and was passing with ease FWD cars and 4X4's in last years 100 year snow storm.
 
I drove home last night in a complete whiteout blizzard, i couldn't see the headlights of my car. Even though i knew the route home, i couldn't see any street signs or roads at all, my gps did which made it a little better.

We got 27 inches of powder.

People don't realize that 4WD doesn't give em immunity to sliding on roads and they are less careful in bad conditions.

Kind of sad really.

It's like that with a lot of safety features. I tend to take corners a lot slower after I've turned off traction control and stability control because I know the car won't automatically recover from a slide.

Maybe that should be the next law. Every car must have stability control but you're not allowed to tell people their car has stability control 😉

[4wd] are the worse for snow, it has been proven.
lol. So when FWD cars take 20 seconds to make a left turn and get t-boned because of it and Subaru cars can do the same turn in 2 seconds without getting t-boned, it's actually because Jesus hates the person who bought the FWD car. Surely it's not the power train responsible for saving a person's life.

I wouldn't say trucks and full size SUVs are necessarily worse...but they are differently advantaged. AWD units like subarus are the best of course, but I don't think I'd prefer a truck over a FWD car after I got out of my driveway.

The kind of 4WD trucks usually have is a pain in the ass and can't be used on dry roads. And you have to put a load of sand in the back to make up for the weight being over the wrong wheels most of the time. So when you run into a surprise sheet of black ice and are in 2WD because you thought the road was clear...you have to perform some fun moves to get out of it. FWD is pretty simple to operate in the same situations....well, its more intuitive. (You're still probably fucked though)

Even trucks weight is a double sided sword. Its nice in snow, but if you're on a sheet of ice it just means its way harder to stop.

Trucks only clear advantage to me is ground clearance, which mostly only matters for getting out of your driveway.

That said, the reason most cars off the road are SUVs and 4WD trucks is many idiots buy those and drive 70mph with a set of bald summer tires on and proclaim everyone else idiots for not being prepared...before careening off the road. I will say that most other cars that go off the road do manage to avoid turning upside down...a feat large SUVs seem less able to duplicate.
