Car accidents, China style

Bad chinese drivers is the one stereotype i can never defend. When I went to China, it was chaos on the street. They do not adhere to street signs, and they drive like maniacs at night.

That actually makes them insanely good.

Do those intersections have no traffic control of some sort? Stop signs or anything?

Then I just don't know what to think of the ones on bicycles and motorcycles just running straight into each other almost head-on - do they somehow not see the other person? Are they just staring straight ahead and not looking at anything else?

Yikes.

Well at least the streets look nice and clean on campus. Of course they probably have to clean people off the pavement daily.

Some of those were so ridiculous that, combined with the weird music, stationary camera, and barren streets, I can't believe they're not part of some candid camera type show.

We know you're biased for your brethren, but I'm sure you youtubed up other videos like...

Driving in Asia is crazy and exactly for that reason, they are 10x better drivers than American drivers. I don't think I could drive in Asia countries without getting into an accident.

Sorry, but that's not true :

""It was a little ironic as the overall number of vehicles in China is far smaller than that in Western countries, while the death rate from road accidents is much higher," said an academic surnamed Wang who was quoted in the China Youth Daily. "

The fact that they all drive like it's the wild west, and there are some videos that show a bunch of near misses but no wrecks at the time (like above) does not = better drivers. They're just used to not driving with rules, which means everyone has to try to squeeze around however they can. It's really much like driving in Tehran or Mumbai for that matter. Even a lot of cities in Mexico are utterly insane to drive in. I'd say the best drivers are in Germany and Scandinavia, with the USA being purely average.

Rules don't make you good or bad drivers.

PS. Chinese cars are made out of tinfoil and recycled paper.

Heck, the bikes and bikers don't even look both ways when they are the most vulnerable. I suspect these people even have frequent collisions running on a treadmill. 😛
