Car accident, **OMFG i finally got it back**

Tonight the side of my car was hit by a bonehead who didn't see me and pulled out of his parking spot on the right side of the road as I was passing. I got all his info and took pics with my disposable camera--both cars, him, and the area. I called the cops but they wouldn't come because there was no injury or hit and run.

Damage to my car extends from the passenger wheel well, along the door, and into the rear quarter.

I called my insurance company, Geico, and filed a claim. I have to go to this auto body shop that does estimates for them. Geico will then cut me a check and I can get it repaired anywhere. If I get it done at that shop the repairs are warranteed for the life of the car.

Geico says it is a "non-fault" accident. They will try to collect everything, including my $500 deductible, from the other guy's insurance.

What have I forgotten to do? What other questions should I ask? TIA
======================

11/15 update: well Geico says that non-fault refers to my liability, in that they believe the other guy to be 100% at fault. I got an estimate today, take a guess if you like, I'll post the number later if anyone's interested.

fender
another one
ouch
door
double ouch (spring is for the convertible top)

1/9 update

Almost 6 weeks since I dropped it off and it's finally done. The shop did a pretty good job, the right side looks good as new. Of course now it looks better than the 4-1/2 year old left side. As soon as Geico recovers my deductible THEY'RE SO FIRED. That fvcking company sucks, it has been nothing but a hassle dealing with them. You get a different person every time you call, and no one knows wtf they're doing. DIE YOU POS GECKO

What kinda car were you driving? And what kinda car was he driving? How bad was the damage?

it is not a non-fault accident. the other guy oes you for all damages and your deductable. Geico will have that shop's estiame be way lower than actual.

What were the estimates of the repairs? Could you have settle this with cash so that the insurance co. is not involved, which would drive up your premium?

mine is going to be $2000+ I would guess.

looks like you did everything correctly. Are you in a so called no fault state? That could be why your insurnce co said it was a no fault. If your not in a no fault state you may get better result contacting the other guy insurannce.

Why the hell would you bother your insurance company about it? 😕

As far as I can Google, California isn't a no fault state. Take your car to the shop you want it repaired at. No need for estimates. Go to the best place in town. Get their insurance company to pay for a rental car while yours is repaired. That's about it. BTW, your police department SUCKS!

how does that work? I just call the other guy's insurance company and tell them the deal? wouldn't they just tell me to fvck off?

You call their insurance and tell them their customer caused damage to your vehicle, which is now at Bobs Auto Body Repair Boutique, and you need a rental. It would be helpful to give them a police report number, which you should have, even though they couldn't bother to show up. You're only entitled to the rental while they're actually repairing your car, or if yours is un drive-able.

You can have it repaired wherever you choose. Bobs Auto Body Repair Boutique will handle the details with the insurance company. They owe that to you for bringing the business their way.

i find it strange that the cops wouldnt come.

nevertheless. there are a ton of fender benders every day in SoCal at rush hour, I'm not all that surprised they don't come unless there's an injury or hit & run. still sucks tho.

wow does Redondo Beach suck. I just called to see if I could file a police report, they say that they don't even do that if both parties give their info out freely (which the other guy did). WTF, wouldn't want to inconvenience you!!! Lazy fvcks.

ok thanks, I will try that Monday. obviously that would be the easiest way to make sure my premium doesn't go up.

Damn good thing you have pics. Good thing you have his info, too! Remind his company about having all that.

Well after waiting for parts to come in and time off for the holiday, I finally dropped my car off yesterday to get fixed. The shop has taken some panels off to see any underlying damage, they sure found some. Suspension, door frame, some header panel that lies above the front bumper, all kinds of fun stuff. New quote is a whopping $5500. At least I'm not paying for it. I'm now driving a snazzy blue Neon.

The other guy's insurance company was completely unresponsive so I'm going through mine. My guys will collect from his guys so eventually I should get even my deductible back.
