wtf is up with you people giving him advice to shoot other people's pets... ?!

1. pellet gun IS a firearm
2. Shooting cats (or dogs) = felony in many states.
3. Why don't you quit being a fvcktard and just resort to a simple solution such as tossing some mothballs under the shed.

Personally, I think nothing of shooting a deer for food... but I consider someone with your attitude toward shooting animals to be nothing less than pathetic.

Sadly irresponsible pet owners sometimes leave other homeowners with little or no other options. Talk to the idiots who leave their pets to roam the neighborhood. I have been in this situation many times and each time Animal Control told me they could do nothing about cats so I had to take care of the problem on my own. I rebuild classic cars and nothing pisses me off more than to have cats walking on them....IN MY GARAGE....and I have had them use my cars and front flower beds for litter boxes. I will admit that I have shot several cats over the years but I had no other options at the time. I now have a livetrap and that is my weapon of choice. Once caught I give the trap and animal to my friend who works for a nearby town and he drops them off at the pound to be humanely euthanized.

I am an animal lover also and have very many pets, but I am responsible. I don't like killing animals if I don't have to but if left no other solution to the problem I will do what I have to do.....but these days I strongly suggest the LIVE TRAP option first and only resort to shooting/killing the animal if they refuse to enter the trap.

The cats are probably the reason you don't have skunks and moles in your yard. They will also keep mice and rats out of your shed.

If the cat has a collar, then that cat owns a human and that human will be pissed off if they find out you did something to it. If a cat is living under your shed full time, then it's probably a stray, so it should go to the pound if you can catch it.

If the cat has a collar and an owner then why is that cat in my yard/garage/under my shed? The owner is irresponsible and should have no expectation for the safety of said animal if it is not on THEIR property.

ugh, it is my ultimate pet peeve when people let their cats run around the neighbourhood. i keep MY dog in MY backyard and MY home. when we go out, she stays on a leesh unless we are at a trail where its allowed for her to be off.

i will probabley get flammed for this but my parents put (very small) mice traps around our garbage cans to keep the cats out. did the trick. ((i was actually against it))

It's a cat, are they going to put it on a leash in the backyard? And what are you putting on your cars that cats like walking on it? In my life, i've never seen a cat do such a thing, so what are you doing that it's happening enough that you need to shoot and kill them?

yes you can put a cat on a leash and walk them. cats in the city are INDOOR pets and if you feel that that is not fair then don't own a cat.

second of all cats do like to walk on cars. my cousin had a cat that died because it crawled up into the hood of a car and was inbetween the engine and some other parts (it had a thing for really small spaces). i also frequently find cat prints on my cars.

RWS lineup.

I've shot close to 10,000 rounds through the model 54.

Some pretty pricey air rifles.

These aren't your $50 Daisy or Crossman hunks of sh!t you buy at Walmart. These are exceptionally well built rifles that last years without loosing compression or falling apart. My father has had his model 54 for close to 15 years now and it still is deadly accurate for dropping squirrels and plinking tin cans.

Consider these the Porche of the air gun world.

My dad use to walk my cat on a leash, i found it hilarious. And she was an indoor cat, so i have no problem with that.

But i'm not so anal as to be upset if i see cats around my neighborhood, which i do all the time. I also don't care if birds crap on my car or make a nest on my window ledge. Maybe it's my Buddhist nature and i think animals should be allowed to be animals. *shrug*

Do the cats do any harm to your property?

Cats climb on cars all the time. I can find little kitty paw prints on my cars that are parked in my driveway all the time. If you own a cat then keep it contained, if it isn't an indoor cat then it doesn't need to be a pet. BE A REPONSIBLE PET OWNER. I don't do anything that attracts the cats and it is irrelevant anyway because the pet owner should keep the little fscker in his own house. If the cat comes in my garage it is going to be eliminated....PERIOD. I have had this happen several times. Have you ever been in a car that has had a cat piss in it? I have....it is terrible and the smell is almost impossible to get rid of. Cats mark their territory too and I have had them do that on the hood of my car where the vent intake is and that means you get to smell that crap everytime you turn on the AC. The front flower bed to my house was being used as the communal cat litter box for some time so I had to smell that crap everytime I came out my front door....until I took care of the cat problem that is. Like I said earlier, I no longer shoot them. I live trap them and then have my friend take them to the pound to be humanely euthanized.

Gosh this has been a healthy conversation... I was away for the evening and came back to over 40 posts in the thread! I do agree that I won't be shooting any cats. It's against the law, and as a father and 'trying' to be a good citizen (I think most people try to obey the law), I'm not going to break any laws.

However, I do know for sure that some of these cats have collars. I had one come crawling out from under my shed the other day, jingling all the way. I am going to call the local Animal Control and see if they do anything like "borrowing" a trap out to capture animals. If not, I'll buy my own.

I do have a thing against cats, and let me preface this by saying it's partially my fault for leaving my windows cracked... I had a '78 Monte Carlo I was doing a full restoration on. Had finished the engine/compartment and the exterior (body work/paint.) Cat(s) got into the car overnight through my cracked windows, HAIR EVERYWHERE (did they FIGHT/MATE/???), vomit, urine spray and feces on my seats and carpet.

Needless to say, it was only a few days before I could take it no longer. I had to have the interior redone and all seatcushions replaced. So YES, I do have a vendetta against cats. I don't mind a cat in someone's home I am visiting, but if they are under my shed or in my garage (I guess it's because it's WARMER in the garage? Why do they always come in the garage and walk on the CARS?!?!?) they are free game. Not going to die in my hands, but probably once they arrive at the pound.

At any rate, I'm thinking I have a right to shoot animals that come through my yard and make their home under my shed. I have a problem with neighborhood cats (some may be strays, some I know may have tags). I want to get rid of them just like I would a skunk or ground moles. (I've had both of those, too.)

Any comments? Am I justified in my cause, or am I going to get into trouble? I'm planning on doing it on the sly, obviously. I'm not going to run around my yard with a pellet gun chasing a cat...

I would love to shoot you if you come into my yard.I dont like jackass comming into my territory.

What a fvkin dumbass you are dude.Yeah do it.And i hope someone will record this, send this to an animal protection agency and put you to jail.

You know there is WAY BETTER SOLUTION than shooting animals to get rid off them. You have stuff you can spray on your yeard etc that can push back animals. But anyway i think you are lacking the intelligence to do a normal thing like this...way easier to shoot them no?

DIAF, really.You deserve it.

I'm with you Randy, but let me warn you that Animal Control is going to be of no help...been there, done that. They will only take the cats after you do THEIR JOB and catch them, and they are not going to lend you a trap from my experiences. I got a homemade one from a friend and rebuilt it and refined it. Once you catch them you need to take them to the pound in a neighboring town so that if they are pets and someone goes looking for them they won't find them....because if they do.....they will be right back at your place, been there, done that too. Most cat owners do not want to be responsible. If you ask them to keep their cats at their house they get all angry at you and most refuse and claim that they cannot contain them, but they seem to forget they simply need to keep them inside. But even talking to them creates a problem because when the cat comes up missing they come to you. It is better to just trap them and take them to a different town's pound and they will be euthanized in a few days when they are not claimed or adopted.

Why the hostility? :) Settle down, bud... This is just a silly Off-Topic forum on the Internet. Everything is going to be ooooookkaaaaayyyyy... Your opinion has been noted.

Thanks, Ronstang, for the advice, and I do appreciate the comments and opinions of all the others. At least I don't have any threatening PMs yet -- I can hear it now, "You cat-hater! Where's da love!?!?"

Randy

(edit - Someone is going to have to fill me in here. DIAF? I have been called a DIAF, (or something) - I've googled it, and I see lots of threads mention DIAF, but have no clue what this means... I assume I should take offense, but none taken since I am clearly clueless.)
