I know I don't have the right to discharge a firearm within county limits (Salt Lake County). However, would a really beefy pellet gun count? I say no, and I will have to check my local laws concerning, since a pellet gun isn't TECHNICALLY a firearm (I think at this point...)
At any rate, I'm thinking I have a right to shoot animals that come through my yard and make their home under my shed. I have a problem with neighborhood cats (some may be strays, some I know may have tags). I want to get rid of them just like I would a skunk or ground moles. (I've had both of those, too.)
Any comments? Am I justified in my cause, or am I going to get into trouble? I'm planning on doing it on the sly, obviously. I'm not going to run around my yard with a pellet gun chasing a cat...

UPDATE - The cat must know that he's safe now that I'm not planning on shooting him. I get up this morning to fresh snow, and the CAT sitting on the ramp for my shed. I thought I would try "calling" the cat over to see if I could capture it somehow, so I donned long sleeves, pants, gloves, etc. Cat watched my come out the door and stared at me, not moving. I take a few steps, "Here, kitty, kitty...", and IMMEDIATELY he goes into stealth mode, slipping under my shed. If I would have had one of my gopher smoke bombs, I would have tossed it under there, but alas, no more smoke bombs.
Going to get a trap... And some .25 kitty food...
