CAPTURING animals in my yard...

I know I don't have the right to discharge a firearm within county limits (Salt Lake County). However, would a really beefy pellet gun count? I say no, and I will have to check my local laws concerning, since a pellet gun isn't TECHNICALLY a firearm (I think at this point...)

At any rate, I'm thinking I have a right to shoot animals that come through my yard and make their home under my shed. I have a problem with neighborhood cats (some may be strays, some I know may have tags). I want to get rid of them just like I would a skunk or ground moles. (I've had both of those, too.)

Any comments? Am I justified in my cause, or am I going to get into trouble? I'm planning on doing it on the sly, obviously. I'm not going to run around my yard with a pellet gun chasing a cat...

UPDATE - The cat must know that he's safe now that I'm not planning on shooting him. I get up this morning to fresh snow, and the CAT sitting on the ramp for my shed. I thought I would try "calling" the cat over to see if I could capture it somehow, so I donned long sleeves, pants, gloves, etc. Cat watched my come out the door and stared at me, not moving. I take a few steps, "Here, kitty, kitty...", and IMMEDIATELY he goes into stealth mode, slipping under my shed. If I would have had one of my gopher smoke bombs, I would have tossed it under there, but alas, no more smoke bombs.

Going to get a trap... And some .25 kitty food...

You won't find much help when a pissed-off dad come knocking on your door with a baseball bat. Are you going to pellet-gun him too?

seriously, just get a live trap. That way you won't get arrested, and you won't have some little girl bursting into tears when you shoot her pet.

Ok so seeing that the law states I can't discharge a pellet or BB gun in Salt Lake County limits, this really limits my options. Live trap is what it's probably going to have to be. Time to call Animal Control and see if they can provide me with one...

I remember reading an article about how the majority of serial killers made a habit of indiscriminantly killing animals in their yards or near their houses. Not sure if that applies to you too or not . . .

If you come through my backyard, I will shoot you with elephant tranquilizer, then neuter you.

Build a spud gun and after fluffy has a few fries shot up his Arse, he will get the message that he is not welcome. If that does not work, then get the biggest can of pepper spray you can find and spice up the kitty's life.

If you want quiet and lethal (to smaller animals) look no further than RWS air rifles. A .22 or .25 will sufficiently do the trick. They are quiet, accurate, and lethal to the vermin that pester you.

A little on the pricey side, but incredibly well built.

You can just shoot out your door or window without drawing any attention from the neighbors :)

I think you have to get a federal permit, and have your local sheriff sign something. Mind you, I don't think your local sheriff will let just ANYONE get a silencer...but you can get them legally.

I wouldn't mind using one if they were legal...great way to target shoot without having to worry about blowing out your ears. Of course, they are restricted for obvious reasons.

RWS lineup.

I've shot close to 10,000 rounds through the model 54.

"totally recoilless"? lol! Nice though.
