Pat Buchanan has coined a new phrase to describe Canada for it's lack of support fo U.S. intentions in the Iraq. linky
What do Canadians think about the U.S. stance on Iraq?
What do Canadians think about their own military?

I don't think they consider it much. Few Canadian's have actually seen their tank.

Btw, just in case this wasn't a flamebait:

1. Canada has been an early supporter of the US. However it has only supported action through the UN, not the stupid "let's attack because we can/because we have nothign better to do" type of action that a lot of americans support.

2. This is what we think of our military

And one last thing regarding the article. Believe or not, we actually enjoy not having people like Falwell, Robertson, Buchanan and Limbaugh here.

the reason my government doesnt spend money on the military is because canadians feel social programs more important and call for more spending on educuation, health care etc. rather than military.

Marty, your liberal consistancy always warms my heart. It's nice to know that some things are eternally unchanging. ;)

If nobody cared about what he had to say, he wouldn't be in the media, now would he.

Yeah, because only people of substance and valid opinions can be in the media. BWAHA.

1. That is not even a cohesive argument Marty. You can't say that a poll has ever been asked in that form and gotten the answer you desire. Maybe you mean that the US is willing to invade Iraq and destroy their WMDs without UN consent if we had too. You forget that if the US was attacked by WMD it would most certainly affect Canada in deaths and disease and also your economy.

Nobody said that his opinions are necessarily valid, but a buttload of people listen to him.

This sounds pretty cool. I don't like the military myself. For obvious reasons. No, I don't hate them. Wish they just keep as far away from me as possible.

To all the Canada haters. :D

1. As a Canadian, I can say most people that I have spoken with do not support the US's stance on Iraq. The US seems to be taking a "shoot now, ask questions later" stance on things, and that just doesn't sit well with me. Before a war starts, all diplomatic avenues should be pursued. (IMO)

2. The current state of our military is rather pathetic. Canada spends less per capita than any other G7 nation, and it shows. Our equipment is quickly becoming old and obsolete, and there are few upgrades on the horizon. If they cut any more money from the military, we might as well just outsource our military to the US. We still have highly trained and dedicated soldiers, but our equipment is sorely lacking.

Well, they do have their ONE TANK!

You may think that all this warfare is pretty funny, right? Well, not quite. If your country has more than 1 tank (let's put it like this), these tanks aren't just for the heck of it. They fire and destroy. And if they're involved in a war, it's some other tanks that will fire at you. Just think about it. From an individual's point of view, what a powerful military is good for? It can only create many problems for a man, IMO. On the other hand, it isn't reflected in a daily life at all. Who would say that Canada doesn't have enough cops? This is the force we deal with in a daily life. And cops are pretty much the same quantity and power everywhere, even in smallest countries.

Well we have congressional approval and now UN approval. Do we need to get Canadian approval next?
