Intel D865PERL motherboard.

I tried updating the BIOS for the first time and the new copy is around a year newer then my current BIOS. Now when it rebooted it made three beeps with a little space and the beeps got louder it did this twice I think, when it booted up it was asking for a boot disk. I checked the BIOS and it could only find my CD-ROM so I couldnt boot into windows then I had to swop my IDE cables over so the HDD would work but the CD-ROM wouldnt (only 1 cable worked) but when I got into windows the CD-ROM would work but it doesnt when the PC boots up, after alot of messing around with only one IDE cable working I downloaded some older BIOS updates and the same thing happened, so its a good job I remembered the BIOS copy I had and that worked.

The beeps werent the same as the BIOS updates that didnt work so it was trying to tell me something but why cant I update it.

I got it from the Intel site under my mother board so I cant see why it doesnt work it was just a update I tried to get but wouldnt work so I had to rollback (download) my old bios.

Intel Express bios update is used while you are in Windows.

The iFlash bios is used for a DOS based upgrade of the bios. You download the update to your hard drive and follow the instructions on dumping the files to a floppy. The floppy will contain Free DOS and the bios file. Pull the bios jumper on the motherboard and power up with the floppy in the drive. Be patient, you won't see anything on the monitor. The floppy will read (it makes noise), pause for a bit and then start reading the diskette again. When the pc beeps, shut down and remove the diskette. Replace the bios jumper on the mb. If your bios was password protected, place the jumper on pins 2 and 3 (custom) Otherwise, place the jumper on pins 1 & 2 (normal). Turn the monitor and boot the system. If the first jumper setting doesn't work try the second setting.

I recently upgraded my Intel D845PESV to the P09 bios, via Express, and ended up with a dead mouse. Intel tells you to reset the bios to default setting. I did and the system died. I switched to iFlash dos based updating and successfully reinstalled ver. P08.

Download all the instructions that apply to your MB. Back up your existing bios. Create the needed update disks before you ever push that enter key to update the bios.
