Okay.. I hate to ask a question like this.. but is it feasable to move out? I make around $11 an hour and work 40 hours a week (or more). I am looking at an apartment with one other roommate (total of 2 people splitting 50/50). Rent is $735. I have no clue what utilities will cost. The apt. does have vaulted ceilings (no other option..) and I would want dsl. I know the phone bill with dsl will be about $70. I have no clue of other expenses.

Do-able? Roommate is reliable and will pay her half. (we are not .. romantically involved.. due to moving in w/ each other.. )

No, it's not do-able (unless you want to be struggling). What is making you want to more out (assuming you live with your parents)?

$735/2 = $367 a month in rent. You make ~40x$11 = $440 a month.

$440 - $367 = $73 a month for food, gas, and everything else.

Question solved?

YEEAAHHH.... screw you guys... where's my bottle...

I live with my grandmother. I feel as though the only reason she's not moving to TN (we live in GA) is that I am living in her house.

Why wouldn't it be possible?
I make about $1400 a month.. rent bringing that down to $1050. I have no car payments at all, and my insurance is nill.

you'll probably get a lot of that back too.

you can probably pay for all rent, utils, and quite a bit of food in the first two weeks of the month. so thats not bad. whats car and insurance run?

Okay, thats fine and dandy, but 1400 a month really is nothing. Is there a real need to move out? Because in all honesty, if you can you should milk it for what it's worth. Not saying be a total sponge on your parents, but if they are offering to let you stay there then you should.

Being in the real world sucks. I've lived on my own since I was 19. The freedom is nice, but I figure I've paid around 30k in rent since I moved out. I could have had one nice car if I had of stayed home for awhile longer.

I have a 98 200sx with all kinds of engine stuff done to it. I got it for a GREAT deal, and it is paid off.

Insurance is cheap for me. I have a deal worked out with my mom and her b/f where I keep up with a rental house of theirs (they live in TN) and they pay insurance and a check every now and then

He makes $440 gross a week which is about $310 a week after taxes.

Your monthly expenses:
Rent: $368
Utilities: $75
Food: $80
Total is around $520 a month
You make $1400

Are you going to school?

And there IS a reason I want to move out. It's wrong to basically be the only reason my poor old grandmother is staying in this state. All of her sisters and friends are in TN. She's done everything she can for me; and now it's time for me to help her a bit.

Do you know that she for sure would be happier in TN?

Well, about a month ago she talked about how when I move out she'll consider moving up there.

We live in a 4 bedroom house, and there are 4 of us. Me, my aunt, my cousin, and my gmother. my aunt and cousin are on their way out. Which leaves my Gmother and I.

Basically, I do need to move out. Also, my eating/entertainment expenses total around $750 a month because I cannot bring anyone to my house. If I had a place of my own I would much rather go there rather than to movies, out to eat, etc.

I have about $1100 in the bank sitting there. I think that should be enough for my half of the deposit or whatnot

If she moves back to TN, would she send over money for you? (I know it's a very greedy/stupid thing to ask, but she sounds like a nice grandmother and if you could get an extra $100-200/month you would be in very good shape)

I wouldn't accept money from her.

No, I don't do drugs.. I live right near atlanta. Dinner anywhere buy mcd's or taco hell is $35-$40. I eat out every day. I cannot remember the last time I ate at home. It's too easy to eat out, and I don't really like being here.
