Try to help someone and what do you get? dead.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ohio - A man is facing charges after a fight at a Fayette County Waffle House left another man dead.

On Sunday, Ross 'Scooter' Sykes (pictured, right) and his fiancee stopped at the restaurant near U.S. Route 35 and Interstate 71, 10TV News reported.

Employees said a group of customers began harassing a waitress after a cash register malfunctioned.

Skyes came to the waitress's defense and was knocked unconscious, 10TV News reported.

"(His fiancee) called me at 4 in the morning and said, 'There's something really wrong with Scooter, he's lying on the ground,'" said Sykes' mother, Karen Cutlip.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Jesse Brakeall was charged with one count of felonious assault. He posted bail and was released.

Hitting somebody hard enough or enough times to knock them unconscious / kill them is intent to kill, at least in my opinion. That guy should NOT be out on bail.
 
Manslaughter at the minimum. I don't think they will be charged with murder since punching someone is not intent to kill. Civil suit won't really do anything since if they're not rich they'll just not pay.

Let me get this straight, Group A is abusing (yes GROUP) person A, Person B see this and steps up to them, tells them to back off. Group A (or person in group A) Hits and kills person B. And your response is basically "He had it coming to him". Sorry, but that is retarded and I hope you know it. If I get anything from your post, it is that you would be the pansy sitting back (or a member of the group harassing the waitress) thinking "Yeah, she deserves to be treated like this because I didn't get my way"

Another case of "No good deed goes unpunished."

Seriously, while I can commend the guy for wanting to help, in this day& age, unless you're "packin heat," this can be a very stupid thing to do. FAR too many people have grown the thug mentality and will wreak their vengance on you for "daring to intervene." IMO, that doesn't make it wrong to try to help, but it COULD be a stupid thing to do.
I'm anything but a pansy, but nowadays, I think I'd just make the call to 9-11 and let the cops handle it...after all, the story says they were harassing the waitress and says NOTHING about her actually being in danger...
 
the article doesn't make it sound like they pounded on him or anything it just says they hit him and he fell down and died pretty much... weird...

I disagree. If you got in a school fight with someone and punched them in the face, was your intent to kill? No. If they fell over the bench behind them, smacked their head on the locker and died of head trauma, you shouldn't be prosecuted the same as someone who shot someone else with a gun. IMO.
