Can't decide between PS3 Slim and New Xbox 360

Look the fact is:

PS3 is a computer, that plays BLUE RAYS and video games

Xbox is a video game console

Er... you sound kind of silly saying that one is a computer and the other is not with the differentiating feature being something that most people don't use a computer for.

You'd have had a better case before Sony removed the Other OS feature from the PS3.

Blu-Ray is great for watching movies and for huge storage capacity, but it's slower than the 360's DVD drive so it results in longer load times for some games. The storage capacity mostly benefits exclusives; most third-party games are developed for the lowest common denominator. In terms of storage, that's the 360.

Since you have a PC, and are an avid PC gamer, getting a 360 would be mostly redundant.

This. If you have a capable gaming PC, getting a 360 is pointless. Most 360 games eventually end up ported to the platform and console ports don't really tax the system.

The PS3 is a solid platform for exclusive titles. Most of its exclusive titles are rock solid, highly rated. PS3 is heavily targeted at the hardcore crowd though. If you enjoy more casual or family friendly titles, it's not the system to get.

These aren't universally true. For #2, if you're talking about games, this varies wildly. Some games, like Hot Shots Golf, take obscenely long to update when you go online. But I'm played many others that had small patches that varied from 1-5 minutes to download and apply.

For number 3, this also varies by person and may be ISP related. I get the same download speeds from my PS3 that I do from my 360.

For number 4, this varies by game, time, etc... I've played plenty of PS3 games with no apparent lag. I'd agree that problems are more likely on the PS3, but it's certainly not a blanket truth.

2 is a fact, i'm talking about console updates in specific.

3 if you read around on forums (even just here) you will see tons of people tlaking about how slow the download speeds are on psn in general.

4 im not saying they all have lag, i'm saying if you play the same game on both consoles online, you WILL notice more lag on the ps3 version more often than on the 360 version.

granted my pool of people that i know who have tested this isn't very large at all, but from what i've seen and people i know, and from what i've read on the net for the past 3 years, the general consensus seems to be the ps3 networking just is not as good as the 360.

i mean it is kind of expected since MS has charged for it since day 1, being able to invest more $$ into it, and had what, a 3 year start on the psn?

i swear i do not understand why people in these threads need to get their panties up in a bunch and defend the console they've sworn allegiance to.

Nothing you said refutes anything I said and two definitely is not a fact.

Christ... shove it up your ass. It's got nothing to do with that, just saying those aren't universally true

Don't be a prick... the name Blu-ray is trademarked, so if that's what you're talking about then that's the real name. Don't be a cock-gobbler just to get on somebody's nerves.

can you post an image of the word hypocrite?...everyone knows i meant blu-ray when i said blue-ray...it's one letter lol

ok folks...one question. can you surf the web with the xbox360?

Is that an actual question or are you trying to start a flame war here?

No it can't, and I've yet to use the browser on the PS3 so for me it's a worthless feature to have. I tried it when I first bought the PS3 and it was bad enough I haven't been back to it. I'm sure people use it but I just don't get why.

😀 No, you definitely cannot.

Who actually uses the web browser on the PS3? I've used it exactly once, when I was trying to troubleshoot issues I was having connecting to a uPnP media server. Browsing the web just isn't something I want to do on my TV.

I use it occasionally. Mostly when I'm to lazy to go upstairs to my PC or grab one of the laptops. Usually just to hit up Gamefaqs or some other type of quick info. I think some people use it for things like Pandora.

Using xbox live in passing does nothing for you. If you don't own both and use them both often, you will never understand it. Live is faster, more streamlined, and handles less than stellar connections much better than the PS3. This is both wireless and wired.

And keep in mind, I'm not talking about Live gold (the one you pay for) I'm just talking about the free parts of Live that are better than PSN. I don't care what you think is worth paying for... Xbox Live just flat out works better and is faster. That's just how it is. You'll never understand until you OWN (not just tried) both for a while..

Dude, I do OWN both. I got PS3 at launch, and 360 when the elite model came out.

I have used both extensively, and I have do not see the giant different you are talking about.

My PS3 handles my shitty internet connection very well. I don't know where you are getting this from.

No it can't,

First of all, thanks for proving the point i was making earlier..the PS3 is a computer--that plays Blu-rays and video games...even though, yes, most people use it mostly for video games

Second of all, since we're being petty and started posting pictures of BLUE RAYS, your second point is flawed logic, its an opinion...the internet is the MAIN feature i use on my PS3 bc its a COMPUTER...since we're using flawed logic here ;-)

really? id rather surf the web on my 46" TV than on my 17" computer monitor

then you haven't used it extensively.

1. cross game voice chat
2. updates take 10 seconds vs 10-20 minutes on xbl
3. speeds in general of downloading on xbl vs psn
4. in game lag is a lot less on xbl than ps3 (this is when comparing playing the same game on both consoles)
5. more users online on the 360 version vs the ps3 version (for cross platform games)
6. xbl MUST be integrated into every 360 game therefore it is much more streamlined than psn integration on ps3 games.
7. sending cross game invites
8. voice chat is of much better quality on xbl vs psn
9. psn tends to have much more general connection issues (again, cross platform games, i'm basing this off of reading forums for the past few years for cross platform games)

i'll gladly pay the $2.50/month for the better service rather than getting on psn for free.

1. skype/vent/steam/gchat
2. not true in my case
3. also not true. PS3 has been FASTER in my expeerience
4. varies game to game, but they seem about equal
5. definately true, and the main pull of 360 online
6. I don't know what effect this truly has. I haven't noticed better online integration on 360 than ps3
7. I have never done this, but I guess its useful?
8. I always use PC for this, so :/
9. Lies. My ps3 is the best connected console, by far. Wii used to be the worst, but has gotten better with my new network.

Again, not seeing any benefits worth paying $50 for.

I used occasionally to watch veoh videos if I wanted to see it on the big screen...

But it definitely isn't a major benefit. Who wants to browse the web with a controller and not a mouse+keyboard?

Hmmm... the PS3 does have the capability of running USB mice and keyboards right? If they're properly supported in the browser than it could be handy. Other than that though, yeah using the controller was awful.

The benefits are mostly the seamless nature of the service (e.g. no need for your #1 solutions... which wouldn't even be useful many people). For example, universal chat combined with parties are extremely useful and it's hard to go without them once you have them.

Say you want to get a group of people to play Red Dead Redemption. It doesn't matter what any of your friends are doing on their 360, you can invite them all and they can join your party while still finishing up what they were doing. If someone is trying to get to a stopping point in another game they can... but they can join your party and tell you that without having to resort to typing out a text message or leaving you hanging wondering if they are coming. Then while you're playing, any other friends you have that come online can pop into the party and see what's going on. You can also change games as a group easily since you can send invites to the entire party at once.

Some people also like to use parties for MP games where opposing teams can't normally talk using the game's chat channel. So say you have a group of friends that wants to do some CTF in a game like that... you can opt to all use the party chat and then trash talk (if that's your thing). Sort of brings back the days of split screen or LAN play where everyone was in the same room.

i said you get system updates faster on xbl than you do on psn

But that isn't because XBL is FASTER or BETTER than PSN...the updates are just smaller, and may hold less content.

What if the PS3 had a 1kb update that changed nothing? Would that make PSN better? No.

I guess I am unique in that I have all my game platforms in one room (as do most of my friends). Therefore, we are usually chatting on the PC already when we decide to play a game.

never said it was because it was faster, i just said that is one of hte benefits of xbl over psn - that you get system wide updates faster on 360 than ps3, which is distributed via xbl and psn.

so you are telling me that it is not a fact that xbox360 dash updates are not smaller in filesize than ps3 firmware updates?

No, I'm saying that the 360 being 10 seconds and the PS3 10-20 minutes isn't universally true. For example, the big spring/fall dash updates take much longer than 10 seconds. Those updates are much more like the the way the PS3 updates (i.e. wholesale firmware updates). And I haven't had a 20 minute PS3 update in a couple of years. Most of the recent updates have been around 5 minutes... maybe 10 on the high side.
