Can't decide between PS3 Slim and New Xbox 360

Since you have a PC, and are an avid PC gamer, getting a 360 would be mostly redundant.

A PS3 makes more sense in my opinion, and the exclusives are not only better, but are also less likely to be on the PC.

I also think my wife would really like little big planet, and we could play that together.

My wife is totally not a gamer, but she and I have had a lot of fun playing LBP together.

I'll throw another recommendation at the PS3. Better exclusives IMO, free online play, and BD player = better choice IMO.

Even if you don't have BDs right now, every movie you'd buy from now on would be on BD. You can also rent BDs.

I got the new 360 this morning and even after about 20 minutes (long enough to install a game and putter around the dashboard) it got friggin' HOT.

It's as quiet as a mouse. Even when installing a game I couldn't hear it from my seat. But just for kicks I put my hand over the grille (top) and it was stupid hot. Probably not dangerously hot, it must be able to run at that temperature, but it was hotter than my pro model by a long shot, and the pro was used for much longer stretches. I thought the new S model was 45nm, doesn't seem to be doing it much good so far. I'm going to play a game here in a bit and see how it does. So far, I'm mixed.

PS3 is way better in my opinion...the only thing xbox has on PS3 is Mass Effect 2...other than that PS3 has Xbox beat...blue ray...online...music while u play...just my opinion

so much fail in the bolded.

Well the Xbox doesn't have Blu-Ray..

And the online costs money (lol so does Sony's now with PSN+ or whatever the hell its called)

...can the Xbox play music while you play a game? I don't play mine enough to know.

1. its blu-ray not blue ray

2. xbl is light years better than psn, anyone who has both consoles and used it extensively will tell you the same if not they are lying.

3. yes you can play music on 360 while gaming no problem, it has been that way since the launch.

Yeah, it supports custom music for any game. On the PS3 custom music is implemented by the devs on a game by game basis.

Yes, though I have no idea why you'd want to.

OP, it sounds like you understand the major factors you need to consider, so I'm not sure what you're going to get out of us. The one thing you may not have considered, and it may be because it doesn't matter to you, is whether you prefer one system's controller over the other. For me that's up there with online play as the top two most important reasons to pick one over the other. The controller is your interface to the console, and if you don't like it, you're not going to enjoy the games as much.

The controllers are quite different - Xbox has concave analog sticks and analog triggers, PS3 has convex analog sticks and analog triggers. Obviously the positioning of the sticks is different. The buttons have a different feel. The handles are different. Most people prefer the feel of one over the other.

1. Oh, I didn't even notice that haha

2. I don't agree. I've used XBL, and I don't see any advantages worth paying for.

3. Never knew that - good to know. Although, I wouldn't want to do that for most games

Oh yeah! Now I remember.

I was wondering why I only remember playing music during SF4, but that is why.

I have both and have used both. XBL is no better than the PSN. It's definitely not worse, but it doesn't do anything for me more than the PS3 does.

What exactly makes XBL SOOOOOO much better than the PSN?

This is true. Some people hate how PS3 controllers feel, and I assume someone, somewhere hates how 360 controllers feel.

then you haven't used it extensively.

1. cross game voice chat
2. updates take 10 seconds vs 10-20 minutes on xbl
3. speeds in general of downloading on xbl vs psn
4. in game lag is a lot less on xbl than ps3 (this is when comparing playing the same game on both consoles)
5. more users online on the 360 version vs the ps3 version (for cross platform games)
6. xbl MUST be integrated into every 360 game therefore it is much more streamlined than psn integration on ps3 games.
7. sending cross game invites
8. voice chat is of much better quality on xbl vs psn
9. psn tends to have much more general connection issues (again, cross platform games, i'm basing this off of reading forums for the past few years for cross platform games)

i'll gladly pay the $2.50/month for the better service rather than getting on psn for free.

Using xbox live in passing does nothing for you. If you don't own both and use them both often, you will never understand it. Live is faster, more streamlined, and handles less than stellar connections much better than the PS3. This is both wireless and wired.

And keep in mind, I'm not talking about Live gold (the one you pay for) I'm just talking about the free parts of Live that are better than PSN. I don't care what you think is worth paying for... Xbox Live just flat out works better and is faster. That's just how it is. You'll never understand until you OWN (not just tried) both for a while..

Look the fact is:

PS3 is a computer, that plays BLUE RAYS and video games

Xbox is a video game console

Don't be a prick... the name Blu-ray is trademarked, so if that's what you're talking about then that's the real name. Don't be a cock-gobbler just to get on somebody's nerves.

These aren't universally true. For #2, if you're talking about games, this varies wildly. Some games, like Hot Shots Golf, take obscenely long to update when you go online. But I've played many others that had small patches that varied from 1-5 minutes to download and apply. If you're talking about dash updates, the 360 definitely isn't 10 seconds. The big dash updates go through a process the entails a couple of reboots and takes anywhere from 5-10 minutes (may vary by time of day). Not much faster than what I get with my PS3, though the PS3 does update much more often.

For number 3, this also varies by person and may be ISP related. I get the same download speeds from my PS3 that I do from my 360.

For number 4, this varies by game, time, etc... I've played plenty of PS3 games with no apparent lag. I'd agree that problems are more likely on the PS3, but it's certainly not a blanket truth.

1. I did forget this feature, I do like it and miss it when I use the PSN.
2. I hear this a ton, and it does not apply to me. I download insanely fast on the PSN. I don't know why, and I don't know why others don't. My friend set his PS3 up at my apartment using my internet connection and I downloaded over twice as fast as him. I don't get it.
3. See 2
4. I've only owned games on either one or the other, and haven't experience any lag on either system.
5. Yes, the 360 definitely has a larger userbase.
6. I don't think I understand this one. Elaborate please?
7. Err, I'm pretty sure I've done this on the PSN...
8. Yeah, it doesn't always suck on the PS3, but some games are iffy. Borderlands voice chat on the PSN for me has always been terrible, but MW2 is perfect.
9. Can't comment. Again I've always had fantastic speeds and connections.
