Can't decide between 2 PSU's

I'm considering buying one of these 2 PSU's:

Corsair 620HX - $155 AMR
Silverstone ST60F - $130

These both have the features and the amps that I'm looking for, but the Corsair is rated at 80% efficiency, where as the Silverstone is about 75%, according to jonnyguru. How much does efficiency matter, and is the Corsair worth the extra dough?

Definitely get the Corsair. It has a much higher effeciency rating which is important when buying a PSU. It means the more power you use, the better the PSU will be able to handle the power output. Don't go cheap on the most important piece of hardware in your case.

Both are very good units. The Corsair is built by Seasonic and I'm not exactly sure who builds the ST60F (could be Etasis).

Of the two I would go with the Corsair for it's quieter operation, high quality components (Japanese caps), and slightly higher efficiency. If you check Newegg however the Seasonic M12/S12 of which the Corsair is based are actually cheaper, your also getting it directly from the source that way.

I gave $99 for a ST60F several months ago. It has rock solid rails as per jonny's review,
even at full output. This unit has no ripple. The O'scope was a flat line at all loadings.
It is full modular, uses Teapo capacitors and is a very good unit.
The ST75F (750W) is to be considered the end of this platform's life. It just squeaked by
in review. The point? At 600W this platform is good to go for full loads.

The ST60F will have a louder fan, by just a bit, Teapo caps(Chinese) and a three year warrenty.
The HX620 will be a bit quieter, have Nipponese caps and have a five year warrenty.
(The ST60F has cleaner (less noise) output than the Corsair 😀 Crazy huh? )

If the money is there...get the Corsair but do check the Google check out price at http://www.buy.com/

Efficiency matter?? The more efficient unit will run a bit cooler and the fan will be quieter.
The Corsair has a much more sophisticated thermal control on it's fan. That means it will
be quieter over all.

Do you really need 620? The HX520 is $80 at buy.com.

Am I sorry I bought a ST60F.....No! 😉

Thanks for the tips. Looks like I'll go with the Corsair. The $89 HX520 should fit my needs just fine, and at that price it's a steal.

i think your mis informed here.

From what i learned is corsair is made by seasonic. There a great company.

HOWEVER, the silverstone, like my OP1000 is made by ESTASIS, and i hear that company even outranks seasonic and is compared with zippy's.

It is my *guess* that the OP1000 and OP650 were designed by Silverstone in Taiwan, then built in the new Enhance factory in China.
Read jonnyguru's new review of the 1kW OP1000 and PCP&C in comparison.

Etasis is starting to market under thier own name. They build the Zeus series for Silverstone as well as thier silent(passive) 300W unit.
Yes, Etasis is upper tier. Enhance is much better than FSP but not quite to Seasonic;s standards....imho.

OMG i thought my OP was from ESTASIS. Blah, i guess im gonna have to return it for the PCnC 1KW edition. :\

I'm using a Corsair 620HX to power my main system (see link in sig). Have had no problems and is very stable with my (relatively moderate) overclock, I'd definitely recommend it.

Haven't used the Corsair so i can't comment on that but I love the Silverstone PSU (I'm actually using it's identical brother the Enhance 0560G). Rock solid rails, inexpensive, and quiet.

Not sure about warranty length but if you're considering the Silverstone you can get the same PSU branded under the Enhance name for a little less. 600W Enhance

Another vote for the Corsair and another owner of an HX520W. 40A on 12V rail, modular cables and industrial quality build = 😀

out of all honesty, is there a TRUE need to spend that much on a psu!! personally, it seems like a bit much to be spending on just a psu!!
as the most important part of the PC, you would be much safer with a quality PSU (quality comes with a price) than a $15 CoolMax. just ask anyone who's blown up a cheap PSU and they'll tell you. I've already killed one...and guess what? I almost lost the project I was working on for almost two weeks.

Actually, I think you are incorrect. The Strider Silverstone models which end with an F (no Z) are made by Enhance. The Zeus Silverstone models which end with a ZF are made by Estasis.

If it is a ST60F, I would go for the Corsair, which is made by Seasonic. If it is a Zeus model like a ST65ZF, I would go for the Silverstone.

ok, I totally can understand spending more then 15 bucks or what not but 150??

I know you get what you pay for but the 150 or 160 just seems a bit over board!!

I myself will be buying a new one but I wont spend more then like 75, I think that should be enough for a decent psu. I think!!

Etasis, not Estasis.

Also, CFM, not CMF.

bleh... care to knock me down some more howard... :T

and yeah its a habbit of mine to spell it as CMF instead of CFM for some reason...

But thanks for the corrections...

I had my 2.8 P4 at 3.2 on stock volts before my PSU blew... now the board limps along and cant overclock for sh!t 🙁
