I have a situation that is driving me nuts. My friends machine running Win98 (first rev.) wouldn't let him connect to the net anymore. Well it connected just the browser wouldn't let him browse the net, check mail, or even ICQ would not find any servers. So I did the usual, reinstalled explorer (was running 5.5 took it back to 5.1) not it. Then went on to the network control panel and discovered that TCP/IP wasn't bound to the dial up adapter. So I deleted everything in the window and reinstalled Tcp/ip and dial up adapter and nothing just lists
Dial up adapter
TCP/IP
Just like that I tried installing a client and nothing either. So I reinstalled Win98 over it's self and that didn't help. So then I upgraded to Win98SE (which has saved my hinny several times) but still won't do it. Arrggg! Am I missing something? I am trying to avoid a full format and install, which if it was my machine I would have done hours ago. Is there anything at all I can do here to avoid what looks like the inevitable?
Thanks
