How true is the first line of the A80 review

One of the most popular cameras of 2003 has been the Canon PowerShot A70
:p

I freakin' love the Canon A40, A60, A70 and A80 digicams ... some of THE BEST digicams in the sub $400 price range.

Is the only difference between the A70 and A80 the 3.2 to 4.0 Megapixel?

<--- has A70, really likes it.

If only they would make them to take a Lithium battery. I've been spoiled by that on the S110.

No, for some odd reason A70 can make movies at 640x480 resoluton. The A80 can't....
Am I right?
Can A70 make 640x480 movie clips?

So far that's the only difference I can see.

If that's true I will wait for another Hot Deal on the A70 (usually Staples or OM has the best price and sometimes offers FREE 128MB CF to sweeten the deal).

the a80 has a swivel LCD.

a nice touch and all.. but i think canon is pushing too far w/ their budget line... $400 is moving away from the market the A series was suppose to cover, the lower end.

Reading my manual, the A70 does 30 secs at 640x480.

I disagree, the a80 is really mid range and IMHO a good move by canon. Like the G2/G3, it can take some awsome pictures with 4mp quality & includes a, what i think, handy swivel LCD. It does all that, yet keeping the form factor relatively small...inline with the other A series cameras.

...not lacking...not over powering...just right ;)

I really need to keep my eyes peeled for a good Canon A70 deal, but they're hard to come across up in Canadia. :(

Unfortunately 98% of Hot Deals only apply to the USA :( poor Canucks :p

I would keep an eye on RedFlagDeals.com and several other Canadian Hot Deals web sites. If I ever run across a super hot A70 deal I'll contact you, maybe I can ship it as a "gift"?

Yeah I agree, the price 399.99 is the regular normal prices you would see at major dealers. Its about $100 for 1Mp, compared to the previous $125 for 1 Mp camera's. Technically it cheaper, HOWEVER the swivel LCD is great but SMALLER than the one on A70 version (canon saves money)

The Movies it can capture, as I said before in another thread. Digital camera's are for pictures, useless as a recording mechanism. That's why I would never rely on a digital camera to capture movies. Another gripe I have is there is no mention of FireWire. :| WTH man.

I don't know, I have to brush up on camera specs since I will be needing one soon. But I see it the same way with Sony's. Some camera's are small and take 4Mp pictures and some are HUGE with long lenses and quite heavy and happen to have the same 4Mp  What is up with that?

Canon makes the best consumer digital cameras... I am convinced of this. :)

Been at RFD since day one, helping out by posting the legitimate Best Buy Canada deals I came across while working there. :)

Thanks a lot, that would be great. I'll keep a watch over Hot Deals too. :)
