a nice touch and all.. but i think canon is pushing too far w/ their budget line... $400 is moving away from the market the A series was suppose to cover, the lower end.

I disagree, the a80 is really mid range and IMHO a good move by canon. Like the G2/G3, it can take some awsome pictures with 4mp quality & includes a, what i think, handy swivel LCD. It does all that, yet keeping the form factor relatively small...inline with the other A series cameras.

...not lacking...not over powering...just right ;)

well, yes, it seems to fit the bill of a mid range camera now. I guess they are just broading their range more for a particular series. It used to be A = budget, S = mid/sleek, and G = high end (and of course the D series... but we'll leave those out :)). I'm getting more at the naming scheme i suppose rather than the camera itself. So long as they don't ditch the A60/70 then.. or else they'll have a little hole.

oh, yeah.. proud owner of an s400 as well ;)

I've had an A40 for about ten months now. Only complaint I have is the slow shutter speed.

:p

I freakin' love the Canon A40, A60, A70 and A80 digicams ... some of THE BEST digicams in the sub $400 price range.

Can you post some pics you've taken?

I think you know what my reply is going to be, right?

Yes you just pwn3d me, I admit it, you win!

LOL
;-)

I've got some cool pics with my A70

no0b - Nice pics, do you normally keep your A70 on automatic or manual?

All of the car pics were on auto, first time using the camera and didn't have much time to experiment, had to get back to work ;).

I think the pics of the bumble bee was manual, but its been awhile.

Even in automatic mode I have no clue how to use my Canon A40, very sad.

Exactly, Canon continues to offer the most "bang for your buck" in all areas of the market. While sony, olympus, & nikon continue to market their high end cameras(5mp) around a retail price of $800. Canon introduces an affordable digital slr with a retail price of a grand.

I am a fan of sony, and soon they will try to counter with their 8mp camera(forget the other specs), but undoubtly IIRC it still uses the MS stick. While a half gig CF card retails for around $150, last time I checked the 512mb ms pro came in around $500/$600....which is ridiculus.
