EDIT: Didn't notice the price i had for the Nikon was w/o lens, price adjusted below

$684ar for the Canon
$1000ar for the Nikon

it seems like the D70 has a bigger following here on the forums... but personall i'm a cannon guy - and have would get a Cannon digital rebel if i were to buy either becuase my dad has some cannon lenses i could use.

The Digital Rebel is usb1.1, so you'll need a reader. The nikon is better, but the Canon is cheaper. You gotta make the choice.

My brother got the rebel since his lenses from the non-digital rebel could be reused.

Can't be much of a Canon guy if you can't even spell the brand name correctly.

I'm a Canon whore and I completely agree with you Pliablemoose. 🙂

Both are great cameras, it just comes down to personal preference.

Looks like the D70 is as well,

Even though Nikon claims the D70's USB port is 2.0 it only transfers data at USB 1.1 speeds, we expected more from a dSLR made in 2004.

The Nikon is more camera for the money. Unless there are some lenses that Canon makes and Nikon doesn't (and there are a few) that you absolutely need, I'd say go with the D70. I can't believe I'm saying this. I'll probably get bitch-slapped by my pimp at Canon.

Check out this. Very interesting comparison of image quality between the Rebel and Panasonic FZ-20, a prosumer all-in-one camera.

And picture comparisons

If these pics show anything about the Rebel, it's that the Panasonic FZ-20 blows it away. Kinda disturbing...

All that shows me is the sigma lens he used is a crappy lens. A friend of mine had a DRebel and NONE of his pictures turned out anything like that.

on a few of those pictures-- it just looks like the focus is off on the canon. my untrained eyes think the canon is capable of much better pictures than thsoe he took.

the sigma lens he used i believe is the same as i orderd, now i wont call myself a great pic taker, or anything, but i have noticed that the rebel doesnt like the sigma lens that much, it is much much harder to focus with, and is much much more difficult to get a correct coloring with. it could be the lens itself (its not that expensive, but is a large zoom lense) and it wont always get the correct amount of light.

Not really. He stuck a third-party super-zoom on the Canon, and used it wide open. I would have expected it to suck.
