I played with one a week ago for a full day. It is WAY too easy to be up in the 500+ picture range in a single day. What an incredible responsive camera - a true joy to shoot with.

🙂 I hear ya!
This camera was so worth the money especially when I am travelling. Though i think I am going to buy a small digicam for those times when the XT is just to intrusive...

They are closing the Naval Base up in Brunswick, might not be such a good place to go back to.

It is a great camera, well worth the money. For me, I need to get a better everyday lens than the 18-55 that comes with the kit, the glass just isnt that good..but I knew that going into it.

I do like my 100-300 Canon USM lens, very nice...I think i am going to go with a Sigma EX next..maybe a 28-180 or something like that

This camera is way worth the update, the 1.7MP is just fluff, but add in a few more features like better shutter speeds, an amazing start up time compared to the 300D which takes a lot longer. The image CCD is a better version as well for better photos.

Is the Kit Lens only a 3X zoom? What is a good lense to get for the Rebel XT to achieve at least a 10-12x zoom?
I currently have a Canon G3 and am thinking of jumping into the SLR market...

I have a Canon 100-=300 and that lens is sweet, you could buy that and be all set. I had the Canon G5 and this camera has made me so much happier!

The 70-200L is nice for a long zoom.

I can't believe people say stuff like I love this camera and then post some tiny picture. Jeez, I could have taken that with a 1MP camera, shrunk it and it would look just as clear as that picture. When I post pictures, I give links to the 8MP version so people can see how clear my lens is (I pay a lot of money for clear damn it!!).

Ok pictures but I hate when people f**k up the colors. So many people think it makes the pictures look better. Well it does not.

WTF are you talking about the colors for? Thats the way it looked, and thats the way it came out of the camera.
My 100-300 is nice, but I need to get a nice clear everyday lens the 18-55 isnt good enough.

I dont post the 8mp photos because people just bitch that they are too damn big...

I almost begged my family for a Rebel XT for my birthday gift, but instead got patio furniture 🙁 I'm currently trying to decide between a new kick-arse stereo system and a Rebel XT body ...

Edit: I type all that crap and don't even say 'Nice pics!', as was my intent. I want to get back into photography.

Maybe it is just the way the kit lens looks. Never really thought about that though. I bought the body only and I have a Tamron and Canon 35mm prime.

Of course I don't post the 8mp links in forums but when I also give out links (in addition to the small versions) the big versions.

Camera or Stereo... tough choice.

The kit lens is not very good, i would by the body alone and then get a good sigma or canon lens, spend the extra $$ on the glass, you will definitely thank yourself after your first set of photos.

I see the difference with it compared to my USM 100-300 Canon lens. I need to buy the Sigma 24-70mm lens as my everyday unit.

On most photography forums I've read, the only complaints about the kit lens are its cheapy construction, but otherwise you're hard pressed to get a better lens for near the price.
