They should have simply scrapped the STOVL version. The marines could stick with helicopters and the Navy and Air Force for air support.

Iran hostage rescue.

Read a little on it. The main reason it failed was the exact thing you just posted.

They're really comfy and practical with the giant cargo pockets. I wear the tan ones because they work better for the climate. I think you could get away with wearing the black ones to work. I wear civilian shirts so no one would ever mistake me for military or trying to be a poseur.
I thought they were all camo?

Where do you buy them?

$10B represents 50% of the Iranian military budget, and they are one of our top adversaries we are shitting ourselves about.

We have a finite amount of money and resources. We can't plan for every contingency with unlimited access to weaponry. And I dont quite see how a STOVL jet would have helped in the hostage crisis in Iran, considering you still need helos to pull people out...

Edit:
Or the use of a V22. But that's not a fighter/bomber like the F35B, so it's rather irrelevant to the discussion of whether the Marine Corps needs to be operating its own fighter wing.

Because there is great use for a updated replacement for the Harrier.

Boeing is considering a new build of the OV-10 Bronco for export and potentially for US service. The AF wants to can the A-10s - Most of which recently went through a rebuild of their wings and wing root/box to extend their life by 2x the original rating in hours.

So we could have handed the marines the A-10's and bought them some new Broncos... In turn they retire their worn our Harriers and run their F-18's until the wings fall off.

What do you think that budget will be once sanctions are lifted?

How much do you think they will be able to raise it by? Their GDP is less than $400B. Even a robust 10% increase is only $2B. What's that, less than 20 F-35s?
Were buying over 2400.

Their entire defense budget is less than our rounding errors

The people making that radar thing are laughing at us picking apart the whole "curvature of the Earth" thing. They obviously intend to put it in the air/space next. 😛

They obviously knew about that shit which is why it is used for sensing missile and space shit.

They knew about the curvature of the earth? NO WAY!!!!

Please tell us how you got so much knowledge on this subject. Was it something you studied in school? Do you work in the industry?

Took a look at the OV-10 and it looks interesting if not efficient ofr the type of job. The Army would want those A-10s just as much. So just how much sense would it make to produce a 2 seat A-10 for CAS and FAC?

They are looking at three different platforms.

The F-35 was supposed to be the F-16 everyone wanted... Low cost, multi-service airframe. It is low cost in relation to the F-22 per unit but still stupid expensive as a program... There are so many more proven low cost platforms for close air support than the likes of the F-35.... The stupidity amazes me. They are not going to get the cost savings they think they are going to get while at the same time being not able to provide the close air support to boots on the ground.

how many times a day do you use technology that is a direct result of military spending?

Once upon a time, military spending was driven by people who had an interest in science and technology and the general overall health of the nation. But now it is driven by people who infiltrated the system to use it as a means of generating personal wealth and power. 90 cents out of every dollar spent on military R&D is done so to line a politician's pockets or as a bribe or a kickback. One must not confuse past and present accomplishments because they are not the same organization anymore. It's not the same people. Its not the same culture.

When was this?

Each of the new SSBN's are going to cost around $6B each. They are basically just giant metal whales that float around the ocean with the threat of being able to nuke a country to dust.

Worth it....?

Only if you trust all other countries that have ICBMs to behave.

Those things are well worth it. They equal hundreds of surface ships. No country knows where they are, so they have to assume they are everywhere. Chews up a ton of enemy resources even when its thousands of miles away.
