The reason i mention this is the Yes vote can be assumed to be lower than the average canadian perception as this is an internet poll for people who frequent the site.

Q: Is Canada anti-American?
Yes - 46%
No - 50%
Not sure - 5%

(6000 votes) - will be updated

Because americans are stupid. That's a world fact, get over it.

Yup and his dad's the chief of police so who ya gonna call?

I don't think they hate us in so much as hate our policy ran though our statist elected officials at the behest of the corps they represent. Basically that's facism BTW. Government controlled by oligarchs. Not populist at all.

It's scary to think that such dumb people currently dominate the world. How dumb does that make everyone else?

I meant Silicon Valley, yes. I've read nice things, but I missed my chance to go there due to a bit of bad luck (got an offer form a mountain view, ca company 2 days after I accepted a job with a local one). I am not mad though, a friend who works in MV right now describes it as "a villiage".

In comparison, is there any place in Canada even worth going to? I don't really think it would be so.

Dude, have you ever been to Montreal? Anywhere on the East coast I highly reccommend, too.

I can't really reccommend anywhere in Ontario, I'll give you that.

True, the only part that's nice to live in is the Niagara region, and that's not the best place to go for good employment, unless you want to open a winery.

Well, there's Algonquin park, but Rabid was leaning more toward the urban in his post. They know we have trees. They're afraid of us selling them to them for cryin' out loud.

I'm simply stating that if the only place in the US to go for employment is Silicon Valley, then Canada likely has nothing.

Mountain View is a small city, but it's in a pretty big area. It's like smack in the middle of Silicon Valley... the entire area is like one sprawled out city. I'm surprised he describes it as a village. But it's not a very exciting place 😀

I didn't say anything about employment. No, its just that a lot of my profs and TAs who've interned/worked there recommended it as a nice place for techies to be.

Apart from that, what does the US have to offer me? a few extra grand a year in return for having to live either in those horrible exurbs or cities which are basicly the same as Canadian ones, only worse. (link)

Simply because there are more companies here and more opportunities, especially if you're above average. The best institutions in the world are here, which is inherently followed by the brightest people in the world.

Canada is basically the poor man's version of California..actually calling it that may be giving Canada too much credit. If you're mediocre, stay in Canada. If you have high aspirations, you can achieve much more in the US, IMO. There already seems to be a significant brain drain from Canada to the US of the 'best of the best'.

I really funny how you're the foremost critic of canadian anti-americanism, yet every word of every sentence of every post you make even remotely connected to Canada oozes with nothing but hatred and contempt. Pot calling the kettle black? More like Pot caling the Fridge black.

In any case I am not interested in your universities, as I don't care for graduate school. As far as your startup argument, goes having dedicated people you know and are confortable with is more important than the "TO vs SF" location.

Typical Canadian flag-waving again. You are what I call the Canadian Mafia here on this forum - a select group of people with rabid Canadian patriotism. I have complimented Canada on numerous instances, but it is quite obvious that the flag is tied so tightly to your head that it is restricting bloodflow to what would normally be called a brain.

Given what you have said here, I think it's possible that you would do better in Canada than the US. Mediocrity might be better off in Canada.

Canadians can't seem to find their identity since the US and Canada is so similar. I have talked many Canadians and that's the conclusion I came up with. They simply don't want to be considered the 51st state. IMO Canadians are pretty cool people and most of them are not anti-American.

Its not that at all. We have a very unique identity, -but- it is largely overshadowed by the US.

We differ on social issues more than you're led to believe and it wouldn't be clear until you've actually lived here 😉

I think a lot of Canadians just feel angered that their image is overshadowed by the USA to Americans and the world. This anger is just furthered and fueled by the fact that most Canadians find Americans arrogant (in general)... just the icing on top/one more thing.

I couldn't give a sh!t about it to be honest. I'm happy with who I am and don't really care what outsiders think of us. I know we're superior 🙂P😀)

In fact, in someways its nice NOT to be associated with the "Canadian Image"-- *cough* Trudeau (who Canada largely LOVES ...figure that one out 😉).

Bahh, you mean Ontario largely loves. Most of the rest of the country hated him with a passion by the time he was out of office.

PS. Sorry Rabid, thought you were talking about tourism, not employment. Havn't been following the thread closely.

2nd edit:
I have complimented Canada on numerous instances,

I demand linkage. Why would you compliment a country you think is vile?

I demand linkage. Why would you compliment a country you think is vile?

Go fish for it yourself. You have been involved in threads where I say that Canada has good 'race relations' and there have been other threads complimenting their stance on homosexual rights. Of course the Canadian Mafia on this forum would rather ignore this.

Canada itself is not vile. To wish that the entire world would become like Canada is vile. Of course a Canadian saying such thing would be celebrated by the Canadian Mafia, as this is likely the single most sickening and blindly patriotic group on this entire forum. However, at least this group is good for a laugh now and then with their hilarious statements like the entire world should become like Canada or that Canada should form some sort of moral superpower of sorts.

How did this thread manage to go 8 pages when the subject doesn't even match the poll shown in the original post? Most Canadians do not consider themselves Anti-American. The poll proved that.

The people on this forum are very intelligent and thus capable of discussing such a topic for that long. I even had a conversation here involving a supposed sterility virus and an alien overlord before the guy noticed something was wrong. We are very perceptive here.

Hey, wouldn't ignore it intentionally, sheer surprise could've knocked it out of my head. I dont doubt you. My demand was tongue in cheek.

And I'm pretty sure you said that the nature of the Canadian state was vile.

Edit: Or was it that the state of the Canadian nature was vile?
