"Four Canadians are dead after an American plane accidently dropped two bombs during a
training exercise in Afghanistan.

Eight others were injured in the blast. Two of them are reported to be in critical condition.

The American F-18 fighter dropped the bombs during a training exercise near Kandahar
Wednesday.

Reports indicate that the victims were members of the Edmonton-based Princess Patricia's
Canadian Light Infantry.

The Defence Department has called a news conference for midnight eastern time at department
headquarters in Ottawa."

Canada was a British colony for most of it's history.

This is getting rediculous. We drop heavy machinery on each other, blow ourselves up, and now bomb our allies. With all these fsck-ups Al Qaeda is going to wind up winning.

Interesting how an American soldier can break a fingernail and it's on the front page of CNN, yet 4 Canadian soldiers are killed by friendly fire and CNN has no mention of this.

shinerburke, you're nothing but garbage wrapped in skin, so keep your tasteless comments to yourself.

I blush for him.

That is really the suck! 🙁

I would like to express my sadness for the deaths of the Canadians in this accident.

I would also like to say to the jerkoffs that felt this was a humorous situation. I hope that you never loose a family member overseas.

Who knows? The accident apparently happened around 5PM EST time and didn't make the news
here until 12PM EST.

I'm sorry our unit names don't please you, a$$hole. We were a British colony for a long time, and we still hold strong ties to them. I'm sorry that you find our Royal names hilarious. You disgust me. Especially when your own pilot kills 4 of ours guys, there to help you, voluntarily. Then you laugh. Your sad...

I cannot put into words my sheer disgust. I tried, but words cannot show what I feel at that comment.

im sure the american military response will be "sh!t happens"

now, Canadian troops need to watch out for both terrorists and american pilots mistaking their green fatigues as the enemy.

lovly

and a fck you to the guy who found our military nomenclacture so hilarious.

for all our technological advacements, the most military deaths in the last several military engagements are due to friendly fire.

for those that think that this isnt a big deal, this is the first military casualty for Canada in 50 years.

According to Newsworld, the Canadian troops were involved in a nighttime live-fire exercise
in a clearly designated and well known training area near our joint base in Kandahar. The
incident, at this time, is being blamed on a likely mis-identification by the pilot... and although
it wasn't said, probably a mis-communication between that pilot and an AWACS crew (the
pilot would need authorization after all).

Well, I for one am sad that 1) this happened, and 2) some losers on this board actually find it funny. 🙁

<< Question for military folks:
Is it unusual to have infantry and bombing aircraft involved in the same live-fire exercise?
>>

No, it's quite common actually. Any time you are flinging high explosives around mistakes like this can happen, even when all the proper precautions have been taken. It's unfortunate that it happened to involve Americans killing Canadians in this situation, but I hope you Canucks don't take it personally. Remember that we have lost plenty of people too, and many of them were also killed by friendly fire.

Just kids being kids. I sincerely doubt they are an accurate reflection of American sentiment towards Canadian casualties. CNN's lack of coverage is little more disturbing given that CBC has it, and struggles to put together a large enough budget to cover internet access. I expect that CNN will have it if things are confirmed, while I hope they aren't.

The Princess Pats have a long history, though both world wars and many other conflicts.

well canadians, dont feel bad because us americans have killed more of our own men than Al Qaeda has. These things are bound to happen. It's tragic, but unavoidable.
