Canadian Flag on American dressing room floor !!!!

There have been reports that prior to the " ladies" hockey game between Canada and the USA , a Canadian flag was on the floor of the USA teams dressing room !! Whats that all about ?

"Whats that all about "

It's about team rivalry. You can make it into something more, but I don't think it is.

it's enough to piss you off but that's what it's about and it probably has the desired effect.

omg this is bad, contact the ioc we should get another gold for this now.

also i think the sport is called women's ice hockey not "ladies" ice hockey.
and if there was and the americans didn't want it they would have taken it down.

Hey there Tex,

Wonder what you would think about it if it were indeed fact? Also curious to know what you would think about teams from other nations trampling the American flag before competitions?

Do you want us to feel bad for something that did not happen?

Gold medals in hand, the victorious Canadians took aim at the biased officiating of the American referee and accused Team USA of abusing the Maple Leaf before the game began.
Alternate captain Hayley Wickenheiser of Calgary got in her shot on national TV immediately following the game.
"I hear they had our flag on their dressing room floor," Wickenheiser told CBC. "I wonder if they'd like us to sign it."
The American players were adamant they didn't stomp on the Maple Leaf. In fact, forward Julie Chu said she was offended by the suggestion she and her teammates would stoop to such disgusting behaviour.
"Maybe they used (the rumour) for motivation. Whatever gets them fired up, I guess, but we definitely didn't do that. For anyone to suggest we would step on another country's flag, that's definitely not the truth."

According to the U.S. coach and the players, this was just something the Canadian coach used to get the women worked up for the game. At least that's what the news is saying on TV now.

I say Shoot em!

LOL Did that live up to your Moronic Expectations Napalm? HAHAHA

This is at best a made up story. The flag cult isn't strong in Canada and I can't see Canadians getting all worked up about their flag being stepped on. The flag cult is very strong in the US and I can't see Americans stepping on a flag of another country.

Well said. Coaches have been known to fire their players up with numerous rumors.

Napalm

What is your reaction to a coach lying about the actions of another team just to get his players "up" for a game?

you have no idea how mad this makes me especially after all the shady calls last night.

just face it for gods sake you lost!

and what was with that american chick balling her eyes out in full makeup? who wears makeup to play hockey.

if it was the other way around it would have been an even bigger scandal.

i love being a canadian cuz that means we dont deserve any respect.

*kat. <-- :|

and i heard it as a truth on the news soooooooooooooooooooooooo

Chill Eakers, I sincerly doubt that the report is true. Now the report of them using Toilet Paper with a Maple Leaf Flag on it might be a different story and worth getting your panties in a bunch over... Just Kidding.. Hey I said I was kidding you Hoser!

People trample, spit on and burn the American flag every day. It promotes capitalism. Boring stuff and who cares?

And yes, I am a patriotic red blooded American who has fought for his country and flag. I just don't see what business it is of anyone else how someone treats their own property.

If they tore the flag off the front of my house and burned it, I'd be pissed.

Dude... if another country did that with my flag, I would be pissed. It's disrespectful, and rude. I would not do that to anyone, including those whom I do not respect, themselves. You simply don't disrespect another's flag.

It was reported in the news:

STory on the Gold Medal

<<There was no love lost between the teams.

The Canadians had heard stories of U.S. players throwing a Canadian flag on their dressing room floor.

Photos of Canadian players Lori Dupuis and Kelly Bechard in the athletes' village had American players' autographs scrawled across the faces.

"We put those pictures up in our dressing room," said Vicky Sunohara. "We weren't going to forget that.

"'Look at what they're doing.' We used those things. We gained momentum from them. We thank them for that." >>

Sounds like normal coaching and team motivation to me. The article above also points out that Canada caught a few key breaks in the officiating even though the penalty count was against them.

I also know that the media wants to milk as much as they can out of every match-up like this.

ps - FFMCobalt - As you're a full fledged member of the flag cult country, I don't doubt that you would feel that way. Canadians really don't care about the flag, so any rumours of flag stomping by the Americans would be like hearing the Americans were calling them names. I bet the people using the rumours didn't even consider the fact that Americans would be highly unlikely to stomp on flags as this would be a hate statement on the level of pure religious hate.

You're right Eakers. Us Americans need to look up to the example of fine Canadian sportsmanship and try to be more like Don Cherry. I guess getting on TV and saying: ""They're always quitting, all the time," Cherry said on CBC between periods of the Canada-U.S. women's hockey game Thursday night. "Good. Let them quit. Let them go home .-.-. Better off without them," he added.
"I've been trying to tell you people for so long about the Russians, what kind of people they are. And you just love them in Canada, with your multiculturalism. "I told you what they are like and that's what they're like. They're quitters and evidently they take a lot of drugs too."

As for the "shady calls" I picked this up on canada.com
International Ice Hockey Federation spokesman Szymon Szemberg said Livingstone was chosen because she is the top-ranked woman referee in the world and Olympic matches must be called by women. But it wasn't bias that marked the game as much as unpredictability in the calls, not all of which went against Canada. More than once, Canada had more than the allowed number of players on the ice and didn't get called. Another time, a puck hit a player on the U.S. bench and there was no whistle. And Jayna Hefford's game-winning breakaway goal looked at least a stride offside.

Whine if you lose and whine if you win. Too bad you can't medal for that in the Olympics, Canada would be a shoe-in!

Kim Dong-sung threw his own flag on the floor and rode over it after he got DQ'd.
