Canadian F-18 Jet Goes Boom

I only saw one parachute.. what happened to the other guy?

Canadian F-18's are single seaters. This happened about 4 hours away from me :s

Hopefully the pilot is okay. It'll be good to have those F-35's.

All the more reason to spend the money to research and develop new fighters. Too bad this administration can't realize these simple truths.

Looks like an engine failed. It was yawing pretty hard to the right.

It looked like it simply lost all power and started floating into a spiral. If there was more elevation I'm sure that's what would have happened. Good thing the pilot got out while he could.

Whoa.... since when did Canada have war vehicles capable of flight?

I thought they still used Canadian geese for their air force.

Link with some better pictures.

A friend pointed out to me that the exhaust nozzle on the right engine looks like it's closed as far as it can go. Don't know if that's due to something the pilot was doing, or if that was what caused the loss of engine power.

Huh? was this crash caused because the plane "wasn't good enough"?, no, the F-18 is an awesome fighter and frankly the F-22 is really a waste of $$ IMO since no possible enemy has yet to match the F-18's capability's.

Did you just say that a fighter is a waste if it is better than an enemy's aircraft? LOL.

Oops, I meant to say no one has yet to match the F-18 capability's, fixed it. My point is why develop a weapon system of any kind if there is no reasonable expectation of it ever being needed..

Lucky pilot.....but that close to the ground, notice that his parachute barely had time to offer him any assistance? Looks like he hit pretty hard.

Had a T-38 training jet go down here, about a couple years or so ago. Instructor & student pilot were doing touch and go maneuvers, and had just lifted off from the runway again, when they had a dual flame out. IP ordered ejection, the plane crashed into a huge fireball.....and the prevailing winds carried both pilots right into the fire! Wasn't a damn thing anyone could do to save them, even though the fire trucks were there within a couple minutes. 🙁

Su-27 and its variants say otherwise.
