Canada to grant 40 million in Tsunami aid.

What's with all the patting on the back here because of these donations? Rich countries are supposed to help poor ones. Hell, humans are supposed to help humans when disaster strikes. It is our obligation for the continuation of the human race.

Whatever. The virtual clapping of hands is indicative of appreciation rather than the obligation of these nations.

When disasters like these strike, people across the globe must band together to help those in need, not count the amount as if it was some type of telethon.

It's kind of ironic that US spends hundreds of millions of dollars a day to "liberate" Iraqis and at the same time sends a measly sum of 35 million in emergency aid to Asian regions in time of one of the largest natural disasters in recent memory. Not that it's surprising given the poor record of US' foreign aid.

As a side note; another interesting thing I noticed is that all of a sudden you can watch, on American television, destruction and dead bodies caused by a natural disaster ~ yet when it comes to Iraq and the destruction and dead bodies caused by US bombs, the US media will show no such thing. Ohh well...

Sorry for replying to my own post but I just read that in fact it is only 15 million in aid that US is sending to the regions effected by tsunami, the other 20 million is just a loan...disgusting.

It must be nice to have a federal surplus allowing for generous donations. Of course the US must aid the tsunami victims but I can't help but think this is not the time to burden the budget any more.

BTW, where can you find out how much each country/corporation has given?

The world's richest nations have pledged more than $250 million US in emergency aid -- that includes $68 million from Spain, $35 million from the United States and $30 million from Japan. Britain has pledged $29 million.

kind of silly how we as a nation love to wage war against another nation and then raise money just to make more money for the corporation. how many percentage does it goes to them really??? 10,20, 25???
I smell something fishy, I smell fraud.
