Can you parallel park?

I was carpooling with a female friend in san francisco and we were circling for a parking spot. I pointed to an open, regular meter spot on a regular 2 way street and my friend said "I don't know how to do parallel parking..." We ended up finding an angle parking several blocks away.

This is the first time it occured to me that someone actually doesn't know how to parallel park! I grew up in the city so it's like a second nature to me.

Do you know how to parallel park?

Hell no. Last time I parallel parked I killed some guy on a Razor Scooter who wore a Ralph Lauren striped pique polo shirt, a black cowhide leather docker's belt, jockey boxers, boot-cut pants from A&F, Pumas, and black mid-cut costco brand (c) socks.

edit: needless to say, this tramautizing incident is forever embedded into my mind.

i can, my mom can't though...i found out when she was trying to teach me to drive many years ago...i asked her what she planned to do if that was the only spot that was available...she said she would keep driving until she found an angled one...i would think it would be easier just to learn...

I don't like to, driving a van, it's a real pain in the ass, but I can and will if there are no other spots nearby.

Yeah I asked my friend why doesn't she learn it? She said parallel park doesn't seem an intuitive concept to her at all, plus she doesn't need to come to the city often. Angle parkign is the norm down in the peninsula so i guess she has a point ....

yeah I can parrell park fine, though I dont do it hardly at all so my skills are probably a bit rusty. Did it perfect for the driving test:D

Someone I knew was worried cause theyd have problems backing INTO the parking space the DMV provides, its freakin huge and not that hard.

I can, but it takes me around 5 or 6 back and forths to get it all the way in.

I'd sooner drive around the block and find an angled spot.

Thankfully every parking spot in the downtown area has been redone as angled.
