Let's say you are setting up a two disk raid array. Say Raid 0, 1, or 0+1 with PATA drives.

So you have the drives connected to Primary IDE Master and Secondary IDE Master. What about the slaves of those two channels? Can you connect hard drives up to them as well, but not RAID them?

IDE0, Master - WD80GB, RAID
IDE0, Slave - Maxtor 120GB
IDE1, Master - WD80GB, RAID
IDE1, Slave - Seagate 160GB

What about SATA? Do raided disks have to be in sequential connections?

Could you run:

SATA1 - WD80GB, RAID
SATA2 - Maxtor 120GB
SATA3 - Maxtor 200GB
SATA4 - WD80GB, RAID?

YES! you can raid just the masters and not the slaves. This will be configured in your RAID configuration where in you will designate which hdd will be raided and which ones are not.

NO, hdd do not have to be in specific sequence when raided. Again, you pick the hdd which will be a part of the raid and which ones will not.

It depends on what controller you are using. If you're using onboard, consult the MoBo manual. With most mobo's (ASUS anyway), you can mix and match to suit yourself.
