My work laptop has a Gig of memory, and 2/3rds of it are never used. Even with a dozen office applications open, I never seem to top 400 MB! What a waste :(

I do video editing, that plus having apps open in both monitors requires a lot of RAM

Sadly my gaming rig only has 512mb right now. It wasn't going to be the gaming rig. Works ok for CS:S which is pretty much all I play.

My main workstation has 1GB though

no musicians in the crowd?! I got 1.25GB and it's still not enough to run more than a few instances of soft synths, wave samples and all that junk. I'm waiting for the 512 pc3200 to drop just a little bit more before I upgrade to 2gb so I can have as many tracks as I want!

I could and did justify a gig of RAM and I have that in my main rig and another gig set aside for a system I'm going to patch together for video editing, backups, etc. Kid's computer only has 768 MB, though.

I spend my RAM money on another monitor, so im still at 512. Waiting a bit more for prices to drop further / get more money in my bank account before shelling out for another stick

The cost was not signifigant...and while the performance increase wasn't amazing, it was there. I wanted to be able to pass the ram to my next motherboard upgrade, and by then a gig will likely be the recommended amount for new games.

Going to 1 Gb was an awesome upgrade!

Smooth gameplay
No swapping

Overall the system feels 'snappy' and fast.
:D
