can you justify having that gig of RAM?

I can, much smoother in games, easy dropping out of big apps, generally makes my rig seem a million bucks 😀

sure, i love running multiple windows of Firefox open, with random PDFs, and lots of random stuff

ram is great. it makes all computers seem faster if they have 1gb of ram or more

Smoother in games, multiple instances, multiple programs

RAM is one of those things where more is always better

I've got two gig in each of the two workstations I normally use, and I'm sure I could use more than that. Sometimes I've got full-page four-color magazine ads to do and posters up to six feet wide to do in Photoshop and when you're previewing from memory in After Effects, every bit of memory helps.

I usually flatline at around 600MB when I'm programming with all my resources open. I don't use a full GB but I need more than 512MB for sure.

(I'll have Oracle DB and Tomcat going while working in JDeveloper with winamp playing music and a few firefox instances and tabs going with 3-4 command shells open)

actually I find the turning point for windows XP is 768mb. I've had a gb of ram, then i had to sell 256mb, still ran about the same. Then I sold another 256mb, and it was noticably slower. next week i am buying another 512mb stick to get back up to 1gb, though >_<
