retail box CPU has HS/Fan 🙂 I'm not an overclocker (yet) so with the amount of cooling the case provides, and the TIM/HSF that Intel provides, should be safice for now. when I do start to OC, it will be somthing that I will definatly want to get.

I can't comment on high-end system components but you're probably better off shortening your PC buying cycle from 3 years to 2 years, and not buying best-of-breed components up-front.

Also, since this is a gaming rig, many folks here would say wait until DX9 games come out (namely DOOM 3) before committing to an expensive GPU. No doubt the Radeon 9800 Pro will be a great card for many months to come, but in the meantime it will just be a waste of money.

Are you getting all your parts from one vendor?

Exactly what I think.
No sense in spending $452 on a P4 3.0 when a 2.4C is $207 at newegg and will easily overclock over 3.0.
Go to HardOCP and see where they got a preproduction 2.4C 😉

everything from newegg except the ram which I'm getting from Crucial as I always do. I know theres better cheaper ways to do this, but I'm not into overclocking yet, perhaps a tad in the future?

funny guy... 15k hdds main subject is to be reliable as they are meant as server-disks, so the speed is important but even more is reliability.
how do you think they got up to 10k rpm? it's 10k rpm tech from the old-scsi-drives in there (as i read in a review, and yes i can't back this up cause it was when the drive was very new and i surf about 384365 pages every day), with sata interface. remember the 1000th of scsi disks? what was their size? x*9 (or x*18) gb.
speed-wise i'm impressed with the numbers seen in the link up there, as they are much higher as the ones i saw (look at the numbers from the beta (same site as above), that were those had in mind), sorry about that.

i didn't know that he has like 436536 teras of space altogether, that's why i said better going with 2 160 or 200gb hdds.

and god damnit. it just were my 2 cents.

You're fresh meat. Take it easy, expect this from people like me. You're right, SCSI is meant to be reliable and fast. However, with a 5 year warranty, I think WD is quite confident that the Raptor is reliable, also considering it only has one platter. You're right, some of the drive electronics are from WD's previous 10K SCSI drives, which is why they cost only $150 or so... Either way, this is a much better deal unless he absolutely, positively wants SCSI.
