yes, but only with a fax machine. it won't fax using a pc fax/modem. talk to vonage tech support people. they don't care if you use your own fax stuff without paying for their line.

Wish I knew why the fax machines work but not the fax modems. I just ended up paying for one of those pay per fax internet fax services. I only fax things 1 or 2 times a year so it's cheaper than a fax machine.

tech support at Vonage says it's because pc fax modems send too fast.

"...because the Vonage Adapter can not be used with a PC fax modem. Your PC fax modem is meant to be use only with a regular POTS line. Your Vonage Voice Adapter produces a dial tone, as does your PC fax modem. U can't have two (2) dial tone producing devices working on the same line at the same time."

blah figures. Wonder if there are settings on my USR that will make it emulate a fax machine and turn off the dial tone production...

Edit: ActuaryTim's link goes to the vonage forums which mention to try *99, when I fax something again in 6 months I'll have to try it. :p

Even with a regular fax machine, it barely works. I always get errors when sending more than 1 page at a time and even on 1 page faxes, it won't work sometimes. If you fax often enough, it's going to be extremely annoying.

what kind of BS is that? why would a faxmodem be issuing a dial tone?
