I don't think so, but I could be wrong. Why the hell would you want to build an Apple anyway?

In a word, no. I have never seen a place to buy an apple mobo. It's usually seen as a package like you get an integrated PC from Dell or Gateway or (uck!)Packard Bell. You're not going to get one of their mobos without buying a full package or unless you're getting something replaced.

I'm sure the thread was just of of curiosity, but I have to ask the same question as above.

the short answer is, no. At some point in time Apple was starting to allow Mac clones to appear but they later changed their minds and now if you want to buy a Mac, you buy an Apple. Actually, I believe you're asking if you can build a Macintosh. To "build an apple" is like saying that you want to build a Compaq, you can't do it.

no, but you can build your own powerpc based system. some companies are producing reference motherboards with all the usual slots (pci, agp).

Kinda. Modern Mac's(the G3/G4 models)use the same memory, keyboards, mice, hard drives, CD-ROM's, CD-RW's and DVD drives as PC's so those parts will be very easy to come buy. Mac video cards are easy to get, every online Mac shop sells them. The cool ass G3/G4 cases can be found on ebay along with the motherboards(or logic boards as Apple calls them)but be warned G4 motherboards don't come cheap. If you build a G3 based system the processors will be easy to find, just go to any online Mac store and get a "G3 upgrade". If your want to build a G4 system AllMac and Shaye Computers are the only stores that I know off that sell 500mhz+ G4 modules.

Diable and yourharddrive...GREAT REPLIES!!!

Yes it can be done!! The mobo and processors are a little bit harder to find, but it can be done!!!

I am an APple Power Rep for my area and I talk with Mac users that do this a lot. They buy/trade with other Mac users all the time.

ya, you can. Like the others said, you just buy the mac specific parts of eBay. MOST of a mac is standard PC parts.

Really? So where do I buy a brand new packaged (ie unopened) Mac motherboard?

This is interesting. So will these "logic" boards fit in a standard ATX case?

What's the difference between a 'normal' PPC system and an 'Apple' PPC system hardware-wise?
