There are rights protected by the Constitution, but these rights should coexist with basic human decency. Protesting at a funeral is nothing more than a childish 'recruitment' ploy by a group of fanatical zealots hiding behind the 1st Amendment. It serves to accomplish nothing but increase their own notoriety, which I assume they must see as fighting the 'good fight' - equating their own persecution as 'Christ-like'.

If they ever made it to the funeral of someone I knew personally, I'd invoke a little of my own Biblical justice - eye for an eye? I'm no Gandhi, and this particular breed of self-proclaimed Christians is more dangerous than any Ang Lee film ever could be.

This is the same group that protested at military funerals. They determined that a very small portion of the bible is the only part they go off of. The leaders are lawyers, I think the game is to piss people off so much they do something that they can be sued for. The people I really felt bad when I watched a documentary on them was their children. They have their freedom of speech, however you'd think child services might do something.

It's not even that. The only "candidates" are family members. WBC is just Fred Phelps Sr. and his extended family. Maybe 100 in all. You gotta be born or married into this thing.
It's not even a cult. The whole bit is basically a scam. The church status is just for legal and tax protection. They make all their money from filing lawsuits at the people who get pissed off (rightfully so) at their outrageous "protests." They seem to thrive off media attention.

I guess it take a certain level of cynicism to see through the BS and see the WBC for what it really is. They're not the nutcase cult of old, that's for sure. There's no cause or agenda behind what they do, just hate.

They march at Marines' funerals as well apparently. The fvcking daughter of the leader of this stupid group was on the radio (96.5 NJ) this morning. She sounded like a lunatic and the radio hosts just kept calling her family and friends a "cult" and her a "loon/crazy".

I CANNOT imagine one of these protesters going to a marine's funeral...what do his brothers in arms have to say/do? I'd go apeshit. Fuck their rights, that all goes out the window when they start to disgrace a innocent human being who has given their life for this country and for them. Fuck them.

I'll bet any amount of money they probably don't go into one of the more poor neighborhoods where Marines are recruited out of? I'd like to see them perform a protest in Marcy projects or Baltimore for a fallen Marine. We'll see how well their right to assemble holds up.

That right is exactly why I would go to jail and be prosecuted for assault if they protested one of my family members funeral. Just like Pac.

thats not quite right. Free speech is free speech about our government so we dont have to worry about getting thrown in the stocks for protesting what our government does.
Citizen against citizen is not protected under free speech, if you accuse somebody of something you better be right or you can get sued.
