I'm not a hardcore OT poster but I'm surprised I missed out on this whole event. Until now I never heard of nowheremom, I did a little google investigation and got updated on the backstory. On the one hand the entire thing was brilliant, on the other it's a little sad that person spends that much time creating a false personality. Could make for a really funny Family Guy episode though

Thanks, PhaZe. For a time I found respite at Ars, but it, too, has devolved into a sea of one-liners. Is there any place on the Internet where I can still get involved in a deeper discussion? (that's meant to be rhetorical)

Since this is now in Personal Forum Issues, I can raise a personal issue with the forums without running afoul of posting guidelines, right? My Personal Forum Issue is that this is in the wrong place, and ought to be moved back to where I originally posted it. Clearly I'm not raising any Personal Forum Issues with my original post, so I'm failing to see the reason for moving it here.

What is your point exactly?

The guy pulled one of the greatest cons on the internet.

You got sucked in like a lot of other people.

Sorry about your luck, but christ dude, move on.

You want to discuss how much of an impact this had on you, talk to your priest or therapist.

80-90% of the people here fall into one of two categories:

a) don't know because they are too young and were not members

b) don't care

accept it, deal with it and move on.....look on the bright side...you didn't loose any money.

Enjoyed the recap, reitz. Don't think there was ever more drama at AT than when that was going down.

Know what you mean about missing thoughtful posts with some meat to them. I think the difference is the majority of OT regulars today aren't interested in a discussion, they just want to post something to insult someone.

Whoah, easy there trigger. Maybe I wasn't clear, but you did miss my point. I didn't post to complain or moan...that whole fiasco was easily one of the most intertaining things I've seen on the internet. No one got hurt, no one lost any money, and eight years later there are still pages of Google hits.

I just never understood the taboo about it...not after the initial anger wore off anyway...and thought it might be interesting to discuss.

kranky,

Insults are fun and all, but I think the creativity around them died off a long time ago...not just here but everywhere on the internet. I blame the kids ;)

Yep.

I enjoy hearing about the history of AT and nowheremom is one of the great lores around here. I also like hearing about the brotherhood of mods back in the double super secret days.

I am disappointed that this got moved to PFI because that means that it will surely be locked and the subject will probably not be talked about again for another few years. But the mini mods have to cover their asses and the senior mods obviously don't want to talk about it. Kinda sucks.

I don't see why this is even an issue. Everybody knows, nobody cares.

Some people know, some people find this interesting, some people can read more than 4 sentences without losing focus.

So please don't speak for all of us when you don't find a topic to your taste.

I was thinking she was someone I went to high school with, and then the light bulb went off. I pulled up the 'Memorial Page', and not only was it the same person I was looking at, but the same picture. My version, though, wasn't cropped at the shoulders, and I was looking at her naked boobs and then some...

I'm surprised nobody has asked for the picture yet. ATOT is getting slow.

I asked perknose in a different thread. Maybe reitz will hook us up?

Also the point you made about this having close to the same words as a magazine side bar isn't really relative. I would read something that is two pages or 2,000 pages when it's interesting. This thread topic however did not meet that criteria.

I probably still have all the pics stored on a CD somewhere but don't expect me to share porn here. Probably have some text documents too, like my confession and the original post of the accident thread. I would need to look for them but I'm pretty sure I can find them. As for setting the record straight, I am willing to discuss details of the matter if the mods think this thread can help people to reconciliate and move forward and if the participants can remain level-headed and avoid drama. I have already apologized profusely and sincerely and amended my ways since this incident, which is why the mods offered me to come back.

See, I don't see what reconciliation needs to be made. Move forward? Bringing it up and discussing ad nauseum is most certainly a step in the wrong direction.

Who needs to move forward? Are there people that are honestly pissed off and upset over something that happened on an internet forum?

Eight years ago, to boot.

It sure isn't my idea of a good time and I too have moved forward but it appears that some are still hurt by something I did on January 3rd or 4th, 2000 and in the aftermath, and nothing else will do. However, I am not sure that even this will make them feel at peace. There are some, however, who would seize this as an opportunity for revenge since they probably think that I haven't paid my dues for what I did. There are also probably some who just enjoy drama and might deem this entertainment.

If you have made amends as best you can for what you did, then its the other people's fault if they can't move past it.

Now if you could just email me those pics....

Well, I'm tired and need to go to bed so now isn't the best time for me to make a decision. That's partly how this whole charade started 9 years ago. I'll go play a bit of Might & Magic VI, then sleep a few hours and see what the Powers That Be decide.

I was around back then and I still consider that the most interesting thing ever to happen to ATOT.

Dennis single-handedly pwned ATOT and I couldn't help but laugh at the situation. :)

I also still wonder if WombatWoman was Dennis all along. I never was convinced that she was a separate person... but that's another very touchy subject around these parts.
