The OP should be banned for the personal attack.

In all honesty, if you were to enforce the way you are putting it then a bunch of people would take lots of vacations. Many times people can't form valid points during discussions or arguments around here without throwing in a verbal attack of name calling.

If you don't want to read spoilers, then don't click the thread.

If you don't want to read spoilers, then don't click the thread.

The whole point, if you bothered to look, was that the thread wasn't about the plot. If someone started a thread asking us if it was worthwhile to read book "X", is it really appropriate to give away the ending without using spoiler tags?

Okay let me be a bit more clear, since my simple point seemed to allude you.

Let's say I'm playing a video game. Or reading a book. Or watching a TV series. Whatever it is, doesn't matter. Let's say I don't want to read or hear any spoilers because I really enjoy said activity and I want to experience the entertainment fresh as I read it instead of knowing what's going to happen in any way.

Then let's say I'm taking a break from reading or playing or watching (maybe I'm at work or something).

Then I see it. A thread about the TV show / video game / book I'm involved in.

If I don't want to see any spoilers, I'm simply going to avoid clicking the thread. What are the odds that I'm going to see a spoiler if I click it? Pretty good, yeah?

Instead of imposing my will on everyone else and making everyone else pander to me and then ban them if they don't put spoiler tags around their post, I'll simply not click. Then everyone else can go back to what they're doing and not have to worry about me whining and bitching about reading spoilers when I'm the one that put myself in a position to read spoilers in the first place.

Don't want to see spoilers? Don't click.

That's fucking ridiculous.

If I'm playing Dragon Age: Origins and want to discuss whether +Strength or +Dexterity is more valuable for a dual-wield warrior build, I should be able to do so freely without some asshole telling me about the ending.

If spoilers are to be discussed, it should go in a thread MARKED spoilers. It's not hard, it takes no effort on the part of the poster. Not doing so shows that you really don't give a fuck about anyone else's enjoyment of a game, which is not the kind of attitude I want or expect from a gaming forum...

People do anyway. That's the point of this thread... enforcing
tags. Here's a common example:

Question
Hey guys, when I get into a fight, should I focus firepower on mages or archers first?

Asshole
I dunno, but in the last battle when I was fighting the dragon and was betrayed by George, the character I thought would be with me for the entire game (he left and I didn't have a tank so I used Alex), I focused on the mages first.

Actually Nik, something almost exactly like this happened in a recent DA:O thread. In a thread about difficulty, some asshole beings up endgame spoilers because he's a dick... and his rationale is "Well, RPGs are all about planning so now you know how to plan, you should be thanking me"

WTF?

Yeah, yeah. I'm now great at mouse-scrolling past spoiler posts... :)

But it's still an annoying thing to take place in a gaming forum, in a thread that theoretically shouldn't have spoilers in it.

I second. Warning, marking or hiding spoilers is good internet etiquette and if somebody repeatedly, obviously and intentionally violates that then I could see it being cause for a mod warning.

You almost had it I bet you could taste the impending connection of logic. That's the whole point, there are a bevy of valid discussions where one would not expect the plot to be discussed. In those situations, it should be more than just common courtesy to make use of the spoiler tags when adding in such statements.

Just don't be assholes. Of course an event like a main character is a spoiler. Anybody pretending different is a soiled douche. Spoiler tags should be enforced. Just admit that if you left a spoiler it was either a mistake or you're an asshole. Don't pretend otherwise. And I've only read a few posts in this thread, I guess it's about harry potter or something ;0

its weird how some people can attack and cuss and call names and then one person says "are you f****ing Stupid" to someone and he gets banned for a week.. really weird.. ive never even read the video game section i guess ill check it out.. i agree spoilers are lame and why not give infraction to them too..
