Can we all agree about SoCal Food Recommendations

I agree for the most part, except he loves In-n-out, so he lost a little credibility there. 😀

What.

I cried when I ate In-N-Out at CA for the first time.

It's so good and has great value unlike the east coast contenders of Shake Shack.

Shake Shack was not good either. Both of them are fine for fast food I guess, but neither of them are very good at all. In my opinion of course.

What burger chains do you like?

Don't say Five Guys.

I like Five Guys. I don't love it though. Have not had it in about a year or so. I tried Carl's Jr. when it opened here and thought it was not very good at all. My problem with In-N-Out and Shake Shack is the patties are are not flavourful and the fake cheese stuff or whatever it is they use is kind of nauseating.

Honestly if I was in New York I don't think I could eat any burgers except for Umami or a decent restaurant. Here in Vancouver our burgers generally suck ass, aside from a few specific restaurants I frequent.

I don't dislike Five Guys. They're fine.

But something feels wrong when you walk out with burger + fries and you just paid $15... wtf.

You can get a proper restaurant style burger at sit-down places like Chili's for less.

That is precisely the reason why once I learned about mustard fried at In-N-Out, I ALWAYS got my burger mustard fried. Makes it tastylicious.

Of course, The Counter is still the superior burger joint.

We don't have Chili's here, but I agree with you. This is why I don't really go there anymore, there are proper restaurants around where I can get a far better burger, plus have a great beer or a cocktail at the same time.

I'd love to try to The Counter and Father's Office (I think that's the name?).

MMMMMMMMMMMMMM! This is a definite go when I come down.

We have a place here the does Al Pastor Tacos and it is an absolute shit hole, but mother of god do they have some GOOOOOOOD al pastor. I will take pics the next time I go.

I had your 3x1, Fried Mustard, Medium Rare, Toasted Bun, Toasted Onion burger. Holy shit that was like heaven.

no..

when are you coming down again?

I will be down in LA the 23rd of November to get my windows tinted, then heading down to SD for a week.

Anyone wanna rent me a spot on their couch on the 23rd so I don't have to pay $100+ for a hotel room? LOL

Seriously - no trip to SoCal is complete without us stopping at Original Tommy's and getting something slathered in their chili.

Tamale extra tomato with sport peppers - $4 with tax.

FO is the original. Not necessarily the best. I love it though, and the beef quality cannot be matched (dry aged beef in a $15 burger? YES)

How does it compare to an Umami? I really loved the one I had in NYC and next time I am in California I plan on having Umami again, but I'll also attempt to get to The Counter and FO (as well as any others I can fit in).

LA is a restaurant burger paradise right now. I would encourage you to check out the non-chain burger joints for their burgers (e.g. not umami, counter)

for example:

of course, if you must hit up Umami I understand.
