I got a message from the moderators telling me that if I did another "in before the lock" post I'd be on a vacation...

post count +1

The distance alone does that.

i completely agree.

let me just take this opportunity to lay out what i consider to be neffing. neffing is posting for the sole purpose of boosting one's post count. if somebody just posts a lot, but they actually have content in the posts, that's not really neffing, imo.

Exactly! Maybe it would start to approach the way it used to be! :frown:

I have to agree with Ornery. The amount of posts that are made just to increase post count are obvious. It clutters up the forums, disrupts the flow of the threads and is just a general pain in the ass. I hate nothing more on this board than to be following a thread and load it up only to find someone felt it necessary to post a smilely face. Dammit if you have nothing to say, say nothing.

Personally I wish they would just do away with the members titles altogether. The only reason certain 'members' seem to be doing it is to just get a new member title. Childish scumbags would be a more apt title for many of them.

Yup. I dont think you should be suspended for a nef here and there. Neffing for %50 of your posts... that's excessive and should be suspeneded.

It now appears that Neffing is approved on Anandtech Forums. No one is stopping it and nothing is being done about it. It seems that no one cares as they once did about the forums.

Oh well, I have a week off coming up pretty soon, maybe I can hit 20k posts in a week. Since it is now allowed and approved, why not?

You just want OT taken out of AT, right? would that solve everything? sure there are the people that just quote what the other person said. or make just a smiley. but those people don't stick around much anyway, and if they do what is the harm in it (using just a smiley to reply)? it tells the originator of the thread that people are reading and enjoyed it or think it is funny or whatever. .

i also saw from the Forum Issues thread that you complain when someone says they can't help. well it keeps the thread bumped to the top and then maybe someone will see it so they can get the help they need.

it isn't like this is the all ending crisis of the world. it really doesn't seem to be much of a problem as you point out. anyway, i've paid for the bandwidth, and as long as i stay in the scope of the rules, i can use it as i wish (which obviously i do, if i am still allowed to post here).

Why is it that neffs used to be banned and now they are not?

No, I like OT, it's about the only forum I visit nowadays. I've been a regular in most of the others at one time or another but now I just like to discuss topics of interest.

Nope, it's about finding every thread infected with the same people that post nonsense just to up their post count. That is neffing and used to be a bannable offense. If it in not bannable any more I might just be tempted to join all of you just to see what fun it might be. Why not, right? Anyone can do anything they want anymore is what you are saying.

i never said anything about doing anything you like. i said that as long as it is in the scope of the rules.

what do you consider neffing then? are the examples i posted not what you consider neffing? i gave you valid reasons why they are not (except for the "just quoting a response and not adding anything". that i agree with you should come with a warning and vactions after that).

We all saw Yakko's diarrhea of the keyboard display in Anandtech news. He even inspired some others to emulate him there. But no, there's nothing wrong with neffing. We should all post anything and everything we feel like. We should bump every thread to the top all of the time. Everyone should have 50 or more daily postcounts. That will really make this a great board.
