Can NFL kickers kick 70 yard field goals if there were no defense?

I've seen many accounts of high school kids kicking 60+ yard field goals, and some well beyond the range of the NFL record..and I'm wondering how much a difference having 6'5" guys jumping high into the air makes..
 
I know Jason Hanson of the Lions used to kick 70 yarders in practice when he was a rookie.

Do I have a link or proof, no. I used to watch them practice.

don't you see them kick off and kick it into the endzone rather easily?
With no one to block the ball and a rather large running start I would say that 70 yard field goals would almost be a peice of cake.

Are you measuring from the spot of the ball, or from the line of scrimmage?

True. But they're not aiming for only a fraction of the field. I'm sure most kickers could do it. But I wouldn't say 70 is a "piece of cake."
 
They can kick it much further with the Tee because it is perfectly set up, and with no defense the holder would have all the time in the world to set it up right. So I am going to have to go with yes.
 
i think so, they can kick a kickoff past the endzone...its probably diff w/ a holder vs tee, but i imagine its possible, more time and more steps to gain speed

kickoffs go out of bounds by bouncing. kicking from the 30 you'd have to make a 75 yarder and still have it high enough to clear the uprights.
 
The reason high school kickers can kick so long is because there is no one there to block it.

The NFL is a different story. They are taught to kick at a higher angle.

Exactly. I saw a HS team kick off, and it went through the uprights. What's that, a 75-yarder?

you're going to get your maximum distance at 45 degrees
 
A few of them could... Sebastian Janikowski could hit a 70 yarder in his sleep. Jason Elam could, maybe Olindo Mare.
 
I remembered the kickers use 2 different type balls. One type is for kick-offs and the other they use for field goals... Has anyone else heard of this?
