and check here to make sure you have no prob with connectors or PS:

my 850w OCZ isn't on it :(
... it isn't even recommended for x1950 xfire ... but it is probably an 'oversight' as it's littl bro is

the OCZ 1010* watter is :p
[ * 2x4 Power connector functionality is achieved via an included adapter cable.]

Huh, interesting, I have never heard of that. After all is said and done though, after selling my Seasonic, it will probably work out to not too much of a price difference when compared to just buying one of the big daddy PSUs. :p

Time to check and see if they sell those add-ons up her in the Great White North! :D If the prices are decent it may be the way to go.

well, definitely pick one off the list ...

higher wattage is better
:D

and i emailed eryder of OCZ - who appears on these forums also - to ask about a 8-pin adapter for my OCZ ... so i'll post his reply

i am NOT upgrading my PS for xfire ... :|
... not when i can run GTX sli :p

so ... lot depends on 'what happens' as to XT power issues ... as to which multiple GPU-capable MB i will pick

Good stuff. Definitely post what he says.

I just looked around at some Canadian shops and this is the only booster I can find:

Which I do not think will cut it. :(

Hmm, looks nice. $400 is kind of steep(Linkage to TT 1200), which is why I am sort of leaning towards the last two I linked to, over the TT.

Is this thing longer than regular PSUs?

Thanks,

i dont know about that PC&C 750 - i'm not saying it wont work, but i have one running 2 X1900XT's and the moment i bring up stalker or cellfactor, oblivion or anything fairly recent game, that PSU gets to cranking, like its getting pushed.
it does seem to handle the load just fine, but makes me wonder how much MORE it will take.
And the 'silencer' 750, not so silent, for peeps looking for a quieter PSU.

Ok, this is it, I have put the TT 1000W into my cart and am about to pull the trigger, unless someone can convince me otherwise! :D

I have also found it for $15 cheaper than before, so that's nice: http://www.directcanada.com/products/?s...34&vpn=W0132RU&manufacture=THERMALTAKE.

The 1000W one is enough right? I do not want to have to upgrade my PSU for a couple of years now if I can avoid it.

4, 3, 2......

as long as you guys don't buy up NewEgg, i am OK with that

and NewEgg charges the same as your outlet for the TT

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi...8+50001379+1131428171&name=Thermaltake
$329

go for it!

[are you *sure* you don't want the 1200w TT?]
:Q

Ultra-high efficiency up to 87%+, PCI-E: 3x6 PIN & 3x8 PIN
Thermaltake Toughpower W0133RU ATX12V / EPS12V 1200W Power Supply - Retail $389

and there are now adapters

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/...in_page=product_info&products_id=21721

Product Details:

*** NEW Custom made Male 6-pin PCI Express to Female 8-pin PCI Express 2 adapter cable from Performance-PCs.com ***

This adapter can be used to convert any 6-pin power supply PCI Express cable to a 8-pin PCI Express 2 cable. This adapter is handy for any modern PSU you recently purchased that needs the 8-pin PCI Express 2 cable connection such as for the new Radeon HD 2900 XT.

Well if I was in charge, Newegg is what we would take first! :D

No, I am definitely not sure I don't want the 1200W TT. For $35 more, is it worth it or even necessary?

KT

Edit: Just saw your edit. Now I think I am confused by how many 8-pin PCI-E cables I need. I was under the impression it was only 2 and I was also under the impression the TT 1000W had 2.

Arrggh. Well I just sent an ETA request to my E-tailer of chjoice to see when the 1200W TT will be arriving. I can buy it elsewhere immediately for $20 more, but it is not like I need it today or anything (though of course I want it today). :)

Thanks Poppin!

another "edit"

... all three TT PSes are on AMD's xfire list from the 850w thru the 1000w to the 1200w

http://ati.amd.com/technology/crossfire/buildyourown2.html
Toughpower Cable Management 1000A (W0132) (1000W)

you should be OK

should be

it appears the 1000w and 1200w share the same number of connectors ...
but ... IF you are going to spend that much ... it looks like the 1200w will be much more "future proof" ... especially if you are gonna go for Quad-Xfire

Hmm, well for the extra $35 I may as well go ahead and get the 1200W. I guess no Starbucks for me for the rest of the week to make up the difference! :(

Thanks again,

OK, just to update, I bit the bullet and ordered the 1200W TT. I found it for $10 cheaper somewhere else, so all in it came to ~$400 (well $398.67 to be exact) which is quite a bit for a PSU, but it should get me through for a few years at least. :D

Now, I just need to wait a little while longer until the 2900XTs drop in price a little...

Thanks for all of the help everyone!

Cheers,
KT

OMG that's $367 in real money :p
:Q

--maybe you can split the TT's output to run two or three [or 4] rigs while you wait for your HDs
:D

and it appears this is the "math" to OC xfired HD2900xts

PCIe slot =75w
1x 6pin PCIE = 75W
1x 8pin PCIE = 150W [which can't just be a 6pin to 8 pin adapter or it would still be 75w]

... so 300w to OC it .. 225w for just the 75w slot, the 2 x 6pin PCIE 150w

600w for 2 oc'd HD2900xts

i think your new PS is OK ...

Well I was hoping to mod my beer fridge to run it off this thing as well. I'll let you know how it goes! :D

600W!! Yowzer! This thing had better be more than just OK for $400. :p I'm hoping to have extra juice for some overclocking too...
