I have a MSI K8n Neo4-F motherboard with my AMD64 Venice 3000+. I can get to 2700 Mhz prime stable but I have to raise the vcore to 1.6V which I know is too high. However the temps are great, 33/40. My RAM is a kingston HyperX 3200 which is running at 2:3 multiplier at 2.6V. Is there any reason to believe I can do better with a different motherboard or is it my cpu? Also while on the topic, which is the best motherboard for overclocking the AMD64 venice?

The DFI Lanparty series are the best out right now for ocing skt939 chips IMO. Your board is generally regarded as a good overclocker though. You may have just hit your limit. 2.7GHz Prime stable is pretty decent for a 3000+ Venice.

A motherboard can be the limiter for overclocking, it certainly is for my freakin 920D. But lke Elfear said, 2700mhz is pretty darn good for a 3000+, so it's more likely you reached the limits of your chip.

I agree. The DFI might let you do the same with less volts, but not worth the cost to purchase it IMO.

Thats most likley your CPU's max speed. Thats actually a really good overclock, I would be very happy with that. Get some good cooling on there and 1.6v wont be too much.

EDIT: Upgrading the motherboard probably wont be worth the time/money to get much more juice out of the processor.

That is a great OC. The DFI would maybe allow a better chip to go higher, but it won't get much better for your chip. DFIs really start to shine after 325 FSBs. Get decent cooling, like tomt said, and put a little more juice in it.

I have the Zalman 7000 cooler. Is that good enough because it seems to be keeping it pretty cool.

The copper version should be alright, but at 1.6v I'd much prefer a Zalman 9500, Thermalright XP-90/SI-120, or Thermaltake Big Typhoon.
