I want to start upgrading my computer here pretty soon, and have been debating back and forth about where to go for the main components first or to start with the monitor. Well, I currently have an ABIT KT7-RAID motherboard with an 800Mhz T-Bird in it. To upgrade my main system, I need three things: upgraded processor, new mobo, and DDR 2100 RAM. I am definitely going for an AMD system, as it's a little cheaper on the budget. I am only going to be able to buy these things seperately over the next few weeks, as I am not made of money. But being the person I am, I hate to buy something and have it set and not be used. And I'm not good with money at all, so I would rather buy the stuff as I get the money for it. What I want to know is, if I go ahead and buy a processor, (I'm going for the XP 1800+), will I be able to use this in my current motherboard and just underclock it? From my thinking standpoint, I would beleive this is possible. Plus, I could run it at around 1200-1400Mhz and get a speed increase currently, until 2 weeks from now when I would be able to hopefully go ahead and pick up both my mobo and RAM.
Please tell me this is possible. Thanks for any input.
