I'll be travelling to the US next week and am planning to buy a 9600 or 5600 Ultra. Will I be able to use the card in Europe?

Iceland: 220v and PAL video.

Thanks.

What about PAL/NTSC for the any TV IN/OUT thingies? Are the different TV standards selectable in the configuration tools in the major cards or are they fixed?

You might need to do a BIOS flash for that. See if there's any program that will change the output through the Tv Out

My GeForce2 GTS can be set to NTSC/PAL (US and European TV signals respectively) from the drivers (card bought in UK). So I would guess the later cards (in particular the 5600)would be the same in this respect.

Can anyone enlighten us with regards to the Radeon?

ALL (except maybe really cheap and low-quality) TV sets in Europe CAN play both PAL/Secam and NTSC.

You shouldn't have any trouble displaying video out from ANY North American card (regardless of chipset) to over 90% of the TVs you'll bump into in Europe.

The ONLY time when the PAL/NTSC switch (or jumper configuration, or BIOS setting modification) is needed is when you want to IMPORT video into your computer from an external source.

Oh, and by the way, most newer European TVs use something called SCART plug for video in and out, but you shouldn't have any trouble finding a converter cable from RCA to SCART...
