Hi all.
My card: Msi Gtx 680 Twin Frozr. I have max temp 70c while benchmarking and playing Crysis3. 65-68 C are in other games.

Can i RMA that card? We all know that 70C is a first throttle point.


On review sites , max load temps for that card are max 65.

We all know that is Twin Frozr cooling and i should get little low temps even on Crysis 3 or benchmarks.
 
They would send a working card back to you.
The card is designed a given way.
Maybe your case, air flow, ambient temperature are less than ideal. You can start by, increasing the fan speed through a more aggressive fan profile.
 
Good luck keeping it at a stock fanspeed and keeping it under 70cel,my Twin Frozr 7850 needs about a 40% fanspeed to stay under 65 cel and a 45% fanspeed t o stay about 61 cel max.

If i overclock the card,the fan speed constantly needs to be set at 45% and sometimes it can load as high as 67 cel.

I would aim for about a 45% fanspeed and see how it performs,considering your card most likely has a bigger overall heatsink and fans then mine,you shouldn't hit 70cel period with that speed enabled.

ambient temps are going to change the results from card to card. There is no guarantee to be below 70c that would be stupid.

Card doesnt slow down at 70c unless the boost is configured that way
 
You can't be serious about RMAing the card. As if you you are running the same exact case, ambients and config which would give you the same temps reviewers are getting....
 
5 C difference is within a reasonable tolerance. That's 9 F... you'll have more of a temperature change if you go from your room into your garage.

In reviews, it's pointless to give you the absolute temperature. That's why better review sites give you a delta (max temp - idle temp). The cooler should generally perform to the same delta, with a little variation.

Not only that, but they probably have a much nicer set up than you do (most likely open bench with fans directly on it). And probably in an air conditioned room.
 
I have a way to fix your problem.

1. If you live in a cold climate, just open your window, just remember to keep the temperature below freezing.

2. If the first option isn't feasible to you, buy an AC and cool your room. Watch for the power bill!

ps. I've got a coil whine that can be heard in an adjacent room. Go figure. I'm trying to return those cards but return policy in my country is very consumer unfriendly, only 10 days and what you are returning can't have any sign of use at all, how's that even possible? And I bought'em right before frigging holidays.

ps1. check your ambient temp, for example I've got an ambient of 27C and most cards are tested with an ambient of 20-22C.

We can't possibly know without knowing your ambient temp and how well your case is ventilated. IMHO everything seems par for the course. Remember every card is different, how TIM is applied can change the temperature by more then 5C.

It's fine. If you really want to be sure, give us your delta.

First, run the computer on the desktop or web browsing for about 10 minutes. Write down the temperature.

Then run a stress test, like Heaven/Valley/Furmark/OCCT/etc. Write down the temperature.

why do you think 70c under load is to much?
 
No reason to RMA that card. You will get it right back and you're out the shipping cost. There's nothing wrong with the card.

You realise the card has twin frozr fans and not twin FREEZERS on the card right?
 
Those temps are fine... the card does not throttle or slow down when it hits 70c...

geez I have 2 680's in SLI and they both run around 80c when maxed out playing a game, theres nothing to be concerned about unless your hitting 90 + on a single card.

Increase your case cooling if you really want to keep it under 70 but there is absolutely no need..

As for those videos he may have an after market cooler on the card or hurricane force case cooling for all you know. who cares?

Why do you think i always buy the cheapest card on the market? Because paying 100 GBP for fans isnt a very good return on your investment

NV only guarantees that a GTX680 will boost to 1058mhz. Even at 94*C, the GTX680 is able to achieve this level of boost. Therefore, you cannot claim this as a reason to RMA as the card is still operating well within specs.

Using temperatures of other systems to compare to yours should only serve as guidance. You'd need to recreate the exact case, room temperature and testing conditions to accurately compare your card's temperature to reviewers which attained a reading of 65*C. Even then, the actual silicon varies from card to card. Once again, even if your card was operating at 90*C, it still wouldn't warrant an RMA as long as it worked properly and delivered whatever boost was promised from the factory.

70c is nothing. My titan will hit almost 80c playing Crysis 3 and throttle down to 1032mhz from 1045mhz. Whoopedoo.
