Can I drop kick the lady in Walmart when she asks for receipt?

I understand about the whole "But I'm an honest person and have never stolen anything in my entire life and God would hit me with a bolt of lightning if I stole anything..." and blahblahblahblah.

Cryin' out loud! Just show the half-wit at the door your receipt. You and I both know that you could show the Walmart checker a receipt from the parts counter at NAPA and she'd go "um, K...have a great night!!" half of them can't read anyway...but at least they have a job instead of sitting home, making more welfare babies that my taxes have to pay for. Just let them do their little job, M'kay?

The door greeters are just doing their part of the job. Get off it, give em your receipt, get on with your life. There is many other things in life you should be more worried about. The reason they do this is because how much theft occurs in a retail environment like this. Our store had over $100,000 worth of stuff stolen just last year which is a crazy amount considering we are one of the smallest supercenters.

Do you like our low prices? Yes, everyone does and we try to keep them low but with lamea$$es stealing stuff all the time they are gonna go up and everyone will pay the price for it. Deal with it or go shop somewhere else

Geeze a lot of people don't mind being mistreated hey? What if it became standard police operating procedure to randomly select people on the road for a pat-down checking for drugs and weapons? Not counting the time it would take from your day (since it's small with walmart) the nation would be up in arms over the injustice and indecency of it.

This is the same thing on a small scale - especially since those singled out are to think they look more like a theif to this person wasting time at the door.

My original questions stands: Do they have a legal basis to demand this of you? Most are saying no but some are saying yes.

The Walmart I work at, the door greeters dont ask for a receipt unless you trigger the security alarm when you walk out...which in most cases, is due to the cashier not de-activating the security device properly. The only other time like someone said is if you buy a TV or large piece of furniture, or Layaway items.

Skoorb, you need to relax. I am sure it was nothing personal, maybe she was just checking every 10 customers that walk out or something. Best Buy seems to target the ... minorities. I don't give a damn if they are just doing their jobs.....that makes no difference to me. If it was their job to randomly stop you and strip search you, would you approve of that? Probably not. They have NO legal right to do so, and I don't need to be bothered with them. They can infringe on someone else. Do you normally let people invade your privacy?

This is simply not true. One your purchase has been completed, you own the items you are carrying out of the store. If you refuse to offer your receipt and they choose to detain you, they can have criminal and civil penalties if it turns out you did not in fact steal from them. So, they have to be quiet sure you've stolen something in order to stop you.

Most people miss the whole point of why these people are there, their job is to verify that the cashier isn't stealing by having a friend come up and either not charging or charging the wrong amounts for items. As someone pointed out 'all they did was scan my receipt and not even count...'. It's usually obvious very quickly if the total on the receipt is 'in the ballpark' for the items your carrying out. Trust me, if you had 4 bags of groceries and the cashier rang up everything as gum at 25c, they'd notice you where walking out the store after only paying $5.00.

Generally, if they are polite (and quick), I'll offer my receipt. But often times at some stores (Fry's), the door people actually cause a line to form as 1 guy stops ever person coming from 30 cashiers. In that case, I will simply walk by them and say 'no' if asked for the receipt. I'll play along, but damm if I'm going to wait in another line just to be nice.

How would you like it if Cops randomly pulled you over and searched for drugs in your car???????? You are on the state's road so they should be able to this right? That is how people in this thread tend to make it sound.

Just because you are on Walmart's property gives them NO right to do this. You can legally walk right by them and tell them to shove it. If they have a reason to think you stole then they can hold you to search for stolen items but that is not the case here. They are just stopping anyone they want without cause.

i just don't shop at those establishments anymore. i am tired of crappy CS at frys and BB and I haven't been there in almost two years... as for costco, i let them look at my receipt because i'm sure i signed something that lets them do that on the membership app..

First off, that is absolutely false. They absolutely cannot detain you unless they have valid PROOF that you actually stole something (and have taken it past the doors to outside of the building). Valid proof is that a manager or loss prevention personnel saw you take it or they have it on tape.

Secondly, there really is no need to be rude to the person wanting to see the receipt (except maybe the real idiots who seem to get a thrill out of it). They are, in fact, just doing what they are told. To answer someone elses question...no, they do not have any real legal backing to "force" you to show the receipt. You can just swerve around them and keep going if you wish, and just politely say "no thanks"

The number one reason they do this is for the benefit of the people in the store who ARE shoplifting. Shoplifters will often "scope out" or watch the doors, waiting for an opportunity to "escape with the goods". If they see that the employees are actively checking people at the door, it can, and in a lot of cases, WILL deter them from trying to take anything out the door.

So, it may seem like a pain, but in reality, you may be helping them to stop someone else from from stealing and helping to maintain the low prices.

i think the only way they are allowed to look at your reciept is if the alarms go off. at least thats how sears is supposed to do it when i work there.

they are so stupid at that store, just like bestbuy

they watch you pay then check your reciept, DUH. thats not called loss control, its called waste of payroll.

i had this same crap happen to me last week at worst buy. i went throught the register closest to the door, right in front of the receipt nazi. all i bought was one spindle of cdrs and i didnt need a bag. so i walk through the door to go to my truck with cdrs in one hand receipt in other. the retard guy runs after me and starts hollering "excuse me sir blah blah! i need to check your receipt" im like "wtf i got this ONE thing with this receipt!" he looks at the paper for like .1 second and is like "ok u can go" im like "f*ck ya i can. "

One of the things thieves do is buy something cheap but hide a more expensive item in their pocket. When the security device goes off at the exit, they see you paid for the cheap item and let you go. Now they learn to deactivate that item and have to go through again to check for additional things you might have on you.

i was at comp usa the other week and they stop you and check your receipt on the way out. this old lady asked this man to see his receipt.

he said "umm, no they already saw it back there" in a really rude voice and just walked out and smirked.

the lady did not do anything.

I believe our uniformed-yet-unarmed guards only check if there is something on the bottom of the cart they think the cashier might have missed.

the door nazi comes to ask for our reciept, and well my friend had read about the best buy thing, and wanted to try it since apparently they have no legal right to ask you. anyways she starts turning and saying can i see your reciept and we just kept walking, and they didnt do anything.




Also did you know that according to visa and master card policies , if you are a store and you use them , you are not allowed to ask for ID. the only thing you need is to see if the signatures look alike, thats why you have to sign the back. i hate having to show my ID, i mean its my credit card, dammit, and you people cant read my name on my card fast so i gotta stand there fiddle through my wallet while you stare at my ID like a friggin monkey staring at computer

Target only checks for ID when you're writing a check and aren't in the system or when the back of your credit card is not signed.

People checking the receipt? We don't have anythig like that in Finland. In fact, in some stores the regular-customers can get a scanning-device when they enter the store. As they pile their groceries on the shopping-cart, they can scan it themself. When they are finished, they just plug the scanner on the automated cash-register and it automatically deducts the price of their groceries from their account. Haven't done that myself but it seems to be REALLY fast and convenient!

the ralphs super market near ucla, has self scan. but there is still a guy watching as people could easily get away with not scanning all their items.
