My gaydar is set off pretty regularly. I think for any gays that are close to the center of the spectrum (completely, manly straight on one end, flaming homo on the other end) then gaydar may not be accurate, but anywhere away from the center it's not too hard to tell. False positives are common though with straight guys who aren't concerned about projecting a straight vibe, or are in theatre.

well, what i'm saying is that there is culture associated with being Gay, much like a culture associated with being straight. There are TONS of exceptions to this rule, of course. But you can assume with a bit of certainty, especially with how muc hsexuality is emphasized in this society that people tend to impose their sexuality on others even when they are not aware of it. It does explain why most people weren't surprised when Rose O'Donnel made the 'shocking' announcement that she was Gay. Most people knew her pretty well from her talk show where there were very few direct references to her sexuality, but she carried herself in a certain way to imply it.

Yep, gaydar. You sense it in someone's posture, their clothing, their body language, voice inflection, and so forth, and intuitively make a judgement call as to the sexual preference of the person. But sometimes people will surprise you.

Depends. I'd estimate that something like 70% of gay men have a "tell," the rest are unreadable. And I gotta agree with Lord Evermore -- male artists and actors frequently give false positives.

it's not like a sixth sense, but I think there are certain subtle mannerisms (we're not talking flamboyantly queer here) or even phrasings that most straight guys probably wouldn't even notice, but kinda make a buzzer in my head go off.
